Pokémon Sword & Shield: How To Find & Evolve Pidove Into Unfezant

Every region in the Pokémon world has a Route 1 bird. For Black & White, it was Pidove. It made sense, what with the fifth gen's Unova region being based on New York City. But many fans write off the poor pigeon Pokémon for not being as cool or original as other region's birds. You know, like Pidgey the... pigeon Pokémon.

Whatever your feelings on Pidove, it's back in Pokémon Sword & Shield. Here's where to find it and get both of its final evolutions.

How To Find Pidove In Pokémon Sword & Shield

Pidove in Sword & Shield fly around all over the Wild Area. They'll swoop down on you if you get close, and you can use a whistle to call them over. You'll find them flapping around East Lake Axewell, North Lake Miloch, Rolling Fields, and Watchtower Ruins. If for some reason you'd rather kick a giant Pidove's butt, Max Raid dens in Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, and Rolling Fields can spawn Pidove.

Pidove evolves into Traquill at level 21, and Unfezant at level 32. Unfezant does not have any Gigantamax forms, Mega Evolutions, or other special transformations. It does, however, take on different appearances based on gender. So if you're going for a really complete collection, you'll want to get both male and female Pidove to evolve.

You can also find fully evolved Unfezant flying around the Wild Area. They can appear in Axew's Eye, Giant's Mirror, Hammerlocke Hills, and Stony Wilderness. Max Raid Battles with Unfezant can be found in Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, and Rolling Fields.

What Unfezant Does In Battle

It probably won't surprise you to learn that, as a Route 1 bird, Unfezant peaks very early. It might carry you through the Gym Challenge with the right moveset, but it won't be something you bring to tournaments unless you're some kind of prodigy.

Like many Flying-types, Unfezant is best with Attack and Speed. It also has a useful ability in Super Luck, which raises its chances of scoring a critical hit. You might think this is a great chance to use Air Cutter. However, it will lack punch since it's a Special move. Night Slash, despite not being Flying-type, is a better option for crits. If it's a Flying move you're after, Brave Bird is a good staple.
