Pokémon Sword & Shield: How To Find & Evolve Wailmer Into Wailord

Wailmer is an iconic Gen III Pokémon that sadly took a hit in Sword & Shield. It's evolution, Wailord, is one of the biggest Pokémon in existence. However, the way Sword & Shield handle Pokémon sprites is to shrink them down to something that can stand in front of human characters. That means poor Wailord looks like a Tic Tac compared to its actual size. To catch this shrunken whale, read on.

Where To Find Wailmer In Sword & Shield

Surprise, Wailmer is found in the water. It's one of the Pokémon that will surface in a body of water as you bike over it. It can appear in Route 9's Circhester Bay and the Motostoke Riverbank.

How To Evolve Wailmer To Wailord

Wailmer evolves into Wailord at level 40. Wailrd itself can also be a rare fishing catch on Route 9.

What Wailord Does In Battle

Despite being big, Wailord is not the best tank. It has a lot of HP, sure, but middling defenses. If you want to keep it in the fight, you could use HP-restoring tactics like Aqua Ring or Leftovers. For attacks, Wailord can use most of the Water and Ice standards. Surf, Scald, Blizzard, and Ice Beam are good picks. You could have it learn Bounce to surprise Grass-types, too.
