Am I A Girl? is Poppy’s sophomore album, released on October 31st, 2018. The album’s release date was revealed in an interview with AMP Radio.

The album explores important social themes including gender identity, wealth, fashion, celebrity culture, and technology. It is a notable change from Poppy’s debut album, Poppy.Computer. Whilst Poppy was seemingly a total robot on her first record, only thinking of her love for pop music and computers, on Am I A Girl? she becomes self-aware, singing about the people controlling her and the culture which confines her identity.

  Poppy:

  In an interview with NME, Poppy said,

  There’s a little bit of Kate Bush and French influence. There are some collaborations that I’m very excited about too. I’m doing a song with Grimes and with Diplo as well. The songs are very, very different from each other. I am very excited.”

  I think another element that is common on the album is questioning gender and identity. That’s the concept behind ‘Am I A Girl.’
