Description[]
Zapdos outside the Power Plant in Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version
It is one of the power plants in the Pokémon World, specifically of Kanto, and it is located south of Route 10. The player is required to use Surf to reach the Power Plant.
In the Generation I games and their remakes, the Power Plant is abandoned but still appears to be operational. Many Electric-type wild Pokémon such as Voltorb and Electabuzz live in its halls, attracted by the power sources and generators. It is one of the first locations in Kanto where a Legendary Pokémon is obtainable, being the home of Zapdos, who is located by the back entrance. A few of the item balls are actually Voltorbs or Electrodes, although they are only the latter in remakes.
In the Generation II games and Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, the Power Plant is no longer abandoned. There are no longer any Pokémon inside of the Power Plant because the building is now occupied by staff. The Power Plant normally generates electricity for various locations, including the Kanto Radio Station, the Underground Path, and the Magnet Train. However, when the player arrives in the Kanto region, they learn that none of the services work, and when the player visits the Power Plant, they learn that the reason is because a Team Rocket Grunt has stolen a Machine Part. When the player defeats the Team Rocket Grunt and recovers the Machine Part, the Power Plant becomes operational again, and the player can also access the Underground Path.
In Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version, Zapdos appears outside of the Power Plant, to the left, after collecting every Gym Badge of the Kanto and Johto regions. Zapdos is not at the Power Plant at all in the original Generation II games.

Anime[]
Pokémon the Series[]
The Power Plant does not appear until Pokémon Journeys: The Series, during its 40th episode, "A Crackling Raid Battle!". Ash and Goh visit the Power Plant in response to the recurring power outages in Vermilion City caused by Zapdos. Inside the Power Plant, the two encounter the Team Rocket trio, who were inspecting the area to turn it into their new secret base. Their conversation is quickly interrupted by Zapdos's cry. Ash, Goh, and Team Rocket join forces in a Raid Battle to try to catch Zapdos but fail. Moments later, Zapdos flies towards the rooftop of Power Plant, where Goh chases after it and battles it using his Flygon and Raboot, while Ash stays downstairs fighting Team Rocket as they plan to steal Ash's Pikachu.
In the same episode, various Electric-type Pokémon are shown to inhabit the Power Plant, like in the games.
Pokémon Origins[]
In "File 4: Charizard", Red and his Tauros battle a Zapdos. Later, off-screen, it is shown that he had captured it.
Manga[]
Pokémon Adventures[]
Prior to the events of the Red, Green & Blue Chapter, Pokémon such as Ekans, Rattata, and Spearow inhabited the area where the Power Plant would be built, but they were displaced by the construction work. The Power Plant never finished construction, although various Electric-type Pokémon such as Magnemite and Magneton began to inhabit the location but had to share the territory with Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar for a while, as well as their master, Agatha. The ghosts eventually disappear after Agatha left the Power Plant.
The Power Plant is first mentioned in "Holy Moltres", where Lt. Surge reports to his boss Giovanni that he has caught Zapdos there.
The Power Plant is visited by Blue in a few chapters of the Yellow Chapter saga, during a flashback. In "Lapras Lazily", Blue meets a Camper named Evan at the Power Plant, and Blue is requested by Evan to help him find his missing Pokémon. Blue thinks that it could be because of a ghost in the Power Plant and investigates. By the next chapter, "Electro Magneton", Blue finds that Agatha is responsible, as she had summoned Evan's Haunter away from him. Blue and Agatha engage in a battle up until "Growing Out of Gengar", where Blue manages to win against Agatha, who then disappears.
Later during the Yellow Chapter saga, in "Can You Diglett?", it is shown that Agatha met Lorelei at the Power Plant years ago. Lorelei cried because her Seel had been poisoned by the pollution from by the Power Plant. Agatha has her Gastly cure the young girl's Seel of its poisoning, then Agatha offers Lorelei to join her group dedicated to protecting Pokémon from humans, to which Lorelei accepts.
Pokémon Pocket Monsters[]
The Power Plant is visited by Red during the seventeenth chapter of Pokémon Pocket Monsters.
Other appearances[]
Pokémon Race mini[]
In Pokémon Race mini, two race courses take place at the Power Plant. The first course is titled Power Plant and is part of the Hyper Cup. Meanwhile, the second course is titled Power Plant 2 and is part of the Master Cup.
Trading Card Game[]
There are two cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game that take place at the Power Plant. The first Power Plant card is part of the Aquapolis expansion, while the second Power Plant cards was introduced as part of the Unbroken Bonds expansion.

Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Trivia[]
- The Power Plant is based on the Tōkai Nuclear Power Plant, Japan's first nuclear power plant.
- The Power Plant has had its musical theme changed more between Generation I and later remakes than any other location featured in said games. In Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version as well as Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition, the Team Rocket Hideout theme plays. In the Generation III remakes Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, the Pokémon Mansion theme is used. In the Generation VII remakes Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, it is the Silph Co. theme instead.
