Then cover fleshy areas with Borax...Leave in a safe place for about two weeks, checking on it every couple of days. You can cover fleshy end of beard with same Borax but they usually do not rot if you just pulled them off with your fingers. Take the fleshy end of beard and wrap with electrical tape to prevent it from coming apart when your ready to mount it. Once dried (usually in 2 weeks) mount on whatever fan mount you select. congrats on your success. #3 · May 12, 2004 are ya saying just pull and scrape what you can and just let it dry? #4 · May 12, 2004 i do mine every year..I just use plain table salt and alot of it..cover it up and in a couple weeks ....dry as dry can be..never had a problem knock on wood mikie #5 · May 12, 2004 Here's the deal with the turkey beard;Grasp the beard in your hand like your holding onto a rope, then with your other hand place the beard between two of your fingers while keeping this hand pressing on the breast of the bird, then just pull hard and the beard will come right out with absolutely no meat or skin attached.I have done it this way for years and have had no trouble the beards falling apart. The best part is there is no meat or skin to scrape and you do not have to usie anything to preserve it.Try it,it'll work great. #6 · May 12, 2004 Rut is absolutely right, there should be nothing to preserve. I like to put a dab of epoxy on the end to prevent it from falling apart, that's all there is to it. #7 · May 12, 2004 ;) I do my tails like SilentHntr said and rut is right on with the beard. #8 · May 13, 2004 I use powered borax on fan and beard. Never had a problem. #9 · May 13, 2004 I don't do anything special to mine other than throw them on the ledge in my office and just checked them they are fine. Insert Quotes Post Reply
