Pretty Little Liars: 10 Worst Decisions The Main Characters Ever Made

Throughout the entirety of the popular teen series Pretty Little Liars, a lot of emotional turmoil, mystery, secrets, and of course murder took place. The show dived into hard-hitting moments that drove the main characters to their breaking points which in turn made for some terrible lies and choices.

Each character had their fair share of questionable decisions that fans had to endure during the 7 seasons it ran for. Some were so bad that it made it difficult to root for them again. While it all worked out in the end for them, some are worth noting.

Alison Dilaurentis: Blinding Jenna

Along with being a manipulative and untrustworthy character, Alison was considered pure evil to the people she bullied. She constantly lied and bullied her peers, even her friends. But the worst thing she did was coerce her friends into taking things too far against Jenna. There was no clear reason why Alison did this other than she was upset with the fact that Jenna wanted no part of their clique.

And it was never justifiable because it resulted in Jenna being blinded. Alison never took accountability for that or suffered any real consequences. She instead, blamed it on Toby and convinced the other Liars to do so, taking it to the grave.

Emily Fields: Dating Paige After She Tried To Kill Her

Even though Emily is considered the most genuine and most relatable of the characters, she still made choices that were pretty much not ideal. There were often times when she would put her feelings for Alison above anything else and was a bit too loyal to Alison.

But the worst thing Emily ever did was dating Paige. Paige tries to drown Emily when she learns Emily ratted her out. It was a terrible thing to do and somehow, Emily still dated her. Paige went out of her way to make Paige feel secluded because Emily is gay, which also didn't help matters.

Aria Montgomery: Continually Dates Ezra

Throughout the series, Aria definitely makes questionable choices and a lot of them have to do with the relationships around her including lying about her father's affair. One major decision she makes is dating Ezra not once, but a few times. Even when she learns he was her teacher she continues to go after him.

Another time is in a memorable storyline in season 4 where Aria learns the truth about Ezra and Alison. Aria continued to pursue him after learning he knew who she was the whole time they dated. Ultimately, she loved him too much to permanently walk away even though there were so many things that went wrong for Aria when she dated Ezra. Yet, she put herself through emotional turmoil that was hard to watch.

Hanna Marin: Kidnapping Noel

At first, Hanna is a charming and sincere character but after the time jump in season 6, she slowly unravels. There are many times in which the liars go to great lengths to figure out who is tormenting them which is completely understandable. However, Hanna becomes so fed up that she decides to kidnap Noel in season 7 which later on results in Spencer being shot.

Hanna also brings Mona along for this antic which is ultimately selfish of her. Hanna makes a lot of impulsive choices throughout the series that get a bit dicey. Though it is revealed that Noel really was a bad guy, it doesn't justify Hanna going out of her way to kidnap and torture someone even if it's a villain.

Spencer Hastings: Taking Adderall Again

Fans know that Spencer had a history with drugs before Alison went missing. And Spencer suffers a lot during the duration of the show and often learns about secrets that quickly damage her mental health.

Although she remains with her head on her shoulders and somehow manages to escape the wrath of A among other villains in the show, Spencer soon becomes addicted to pills again in season 4. She becomes obsessed with finding out the truth and becomes so out of tune with reality that she hallucinates the episode, "Shadowplay" in which Alison is alive.

Mona Vanderwaal: Becoming A

There were many moments in the series in which Mona made terrible decisions. And as the show proclaims, she was an evil genius with redeeming qualities. However, Mona did everything from framing Alison for murder to staging Toby's death in order to torture Spencer when she was A.

When Mona convinced Alison to run away, she single-handily created the antagonist of the show, A. Becoming A resulted in running Hanna over with her car, blackmailing the liars, and essentially ruining their lives.

Ezra Fitz: Dating Teenagers

Ezra came off as a charming established teacher when fans first see him in the pilot. However, it is revealed that he was the guy in the bar who hooked up with Aria. Later in the series, it is also revealed that he had romantic connection to Alison which fans didn't see coming.

It was Ezra's biggest secret and ultimately made him a bad person. He was too old to ever get involved with teenagers in the first place. Ezra came across as a predator and dating teens often led to rough things for him. It caused him to be shot, jobless a few times, and set up the whole Malcolm situation.

Caleb Rivers: Dating Spencer

There were a lot of moments that fans of Pretty Little Liars found Caleb to not be a good guy. Initially, he hacks into people's phones and works for Jenna to get intel on the Liars. He even enables Hanna to overly drink in season 5. But in the later seasons he decides to date Spencer, Hanna's best friend.

Although they all talk it out, there is obvious tension whenever all three characters were together in a room. Caleb goes on to cheat on Spencer with Hanna and eventually gets back together with Hanna, which was toxic and problematic. It truly doesn't make sense how they all survived that and even stayed friends at the end of the series when their relationship was a waste and could have potentially ruined their friendship.

Toby Cavanaugh: Joining The A Team

Although Toby's intentions were good and he was a double agent, this was his worst decision in the series. At this time, it was one of the biggest twists and greatest betrayals because fans thought Toby could be trusted.

Toby's role with the A team caused Spencer to become unhinged. Of course, this was the only thing Toby could think of to protect Spencer, but it led to the destruction of their relationship and caused Spencer's mental breakdown when he fakes his death.

Jenna Marshall: Sexually Assaulting Toby

Even though Jenna goes through a traumatic act in the series, she has no problem ruining the lives of the Liars. She accepts that Garret killed Alison, destroys the autopsy reports, and tries to kill the Liars in season 7.

The worst is when she forces herself on her stepbrother, Toby. She then records herself and goes through so much to get the flash drive with the evidence. No one ever mentions it after but it's hard to ignore.
