Effect

Held item

Causes Feebas to evolve into Milotic when traded while holding it. This consumes the Prism Scale.

This item was introduced in Generation V due to the lack of a means to increase Beauty in these games. However, even in games in which the Prism Scale exists, a Feebas can still evolve if leveled up while its Beauty is high enough.

Detective Pikachu

A Prism Scale appears during Chapter 4 of Detective Pikachu, being worn by Milo Green on his headband. He mentions that he obtained the scale when he was once saved from drowning by a Pokémon, which is later revealed to have been a Milotic. The presence of this Prism Scale also acts as the trigger to the Evolution of a Feebas that Milo has befriended.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

A Prism Scale appeared in The Cuteness Quotient!, where it was attached to Jinny's Feebas. During an attack by Team Rocket, the Prism Scale fell off, but Jinny reattached it to Feebas, causing it to evolve into Milotic.

Held Item Pins Feebas

The Prism Scale is the held item featured alongside Feebas in the Held Item Pins line by The Pokémon Company International.

Trivia

  • In Pokémon Black and White, the Prism Scale was incorrectly categorized in the Bag as a general item rather than a held item. This was corrected in Black 2 and White 2, but was undone in X and Y, causing it to be sorted with valuable items rather than Evolution items in Generations VI and VII.
