78_towncar_460 7 Remington 870 express magnum 7 shot I had a tactical forend on the front of the gun and I am going camping and I would like the original forend back on along with the original stock. I dismantled the gun and cleaned it a little bit. When I tried to put the gun back together I was looking at the instructions and the last few instructions were to slide the forend rearward until the left shell stop objects. Then you push the left shell stop in and it slides back more. The next direction was to push the forend back until it is stopped by the action bar lock. The problem is here. The action bar lock never stops me from pulling the forend back all the way. The gun loads the hammer moves back and then the trigger is ready to fire. I put the barrel back in and now the gun is ridiculously hard to pump. I just left it how it was because I didn't want anything to break (might be too late). What went wrong? I didn't have this problem last time, I didn't use too much oil and I wiped all the parts thouroughly. _mike #1 · Aug 1, 2005 Remington 870 express magnum 7 shot I had a tactical forend on the front of the gun and I am going camping and I would like the original forend back on along with the original stock. First of all it is a three step process, There is a left stop and a right stop, then you push in the slide release. It sounds like you went from step 1 to step 3. Try to disassemble it and follow all three steps. The second stop is on the opposite side and is just slightly past the first one. You're not alone the 870 is tricky to reassemble the first few times you try. #3 · Aug 2, 2005 I did engage both of the slide stops, right and left, my problem is the next two steps. It says to move the forend rearward until it stops on the action bar lock, then you are supposed to push the action bar lock upward and then move the forend about halfway back, then put the barrel and magazine cap back on. I have done this but when I go to move the forend back to stop against the action bar lock, it doesn't stop. I am able to work the action 100% when the gun should be stopping at the action bar lock. Then once the gun is reassembled the gun is very hard to pump. Any ideas of what I have done wrong? I need this thing to be up and running by tomorrow because I am going up to my grandparents property and I would like to do a little shooting. #4 · Aug 7, 2005 I don't know if this is helpful or not, but, perhaps, there will be words in my post that would be the key to success? To reassemble, you have to exercise a bit of manual dexterity. Stand the action upright, or hold the buttstock between your legs as you sit. Place the bolt on the slide. Grasp the forearm with your right hand, and pick-up the bolt and slide with your left. Line the action bar recesses up with the cuts on the slide, and hold the assembley together. Slide the action tube over the magazine tube, and guide the bolt and slide into the receiver. Stop when you feel resistance. If you force the action bars into the receiver past the shell stops (or rather attempt to) you will force the shell stops out of their slots, past their stakes. Reach into the bottom of the receiver and press the right shell stop outwards and let the action bars go into the receiver a fraction. (The "right" one is the one closest to the ejection port). Then depress the left shell stop and push the action bar/forearm back an inch or 2. If you run the action all the way back the action bars will cam the shell stops as they are designed to do. Without the support of the trigger assembly housing and the assembly pins, the shell stops may become loosened over time. Insert the triger assembly. Press the pins through. Then, run the action back, and place the barrel into the receiver. Once the barrel is seated and the barrel hanger encircles the magazine, screw on the retaining cap. This is from an excellent book, Gunsmithing: Shotguns by Pat Sweeney. I hope you will see some words in there that might solve the problem? Insert Quotes Post Reply
