Point of sale app:

Sign in to your point of sale app and tap Transactions.
Select the payment you’d like to refund. You can also search for the payment by card number, phone, customer name, receipt, notes, or item.
Tap Issue refund.
You can tap Select All Items to refund the entire sale, select only specific items to refund, or tap Amount to refund a specific amount.
Tap Next.
Choose how you’d like to refund the amount and select a reason for the refund.
Tap Refund.

Square Dashboard:

Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Transactions.
Select the payment you’d like to refund. You can also use the filters to search for the payment.
Click ••• > Issue Refund.
You can check the Items box to refund the entire sale or check only specific items to refund. You can also click Refund Amount to refund a specific amount and select a reason for the refund.
Click Issue Refund.
