Safe Mode is a secret menu that contains all of the necessary tools to troubleshoot, update, and maintain your PlayStation 4. Here's how to access safe mode PS4 if the console isn't working.

How to put PS4 in safe mode?

The Safe Mode should only be used when experiencing significant problems such as system failures, game errors, recurrent errors, or boot issues. Turn off your console and hold the Power button until you hear two beeps (7-8 seconds). Connect the DualShock 4 controller using the provided USB cable and press the PS button to access Safe Mode.

What are the safe mode options?

Restart System: Restart the console and prompt the user to reconfigure the audio and video settings.
Change Resolution: Switch to the 480p screen resolution on the next reboot.
Update System Software: Update the system software via the internet, a USB stick, or a game disc.
Restore Default Settings: Restores the console to default settings (keeps user data).
Rebuild Database: Scan the hard drive of the PS4 and create a new database of all the stored content.
Initialize PS4: Erases all user settings and data and restore the console to default settings.
Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software): Wipes the entire content of the hard drive, including the system software. This option requires that you download and re-install the system software manually.
