They can also be just as expensive.
Some breeds are affordable to buy, but at the moment, with the demand for puppies and dogs extremely high, people are spending thousands of pounds to find the perfect pooch.
With plenty of people always looking for a dog of their own, it can be a crowded marketplace trying to get one and they do not necessarily come cheap.
And after a year of lockdown, it seems more and more people have been feeling the pinch when trying to find a furry friend, reports Team Dogs.
With everyone keen to get their hands on some cuddly company, pet breeders have jumped at the chance to profit from their animals.
The average price of many breeds has gone through the roof as demand for a four-legged friend grew through lockdown.
Some of the more in-demand breeds saw the value per pup skyrocket over the course of 2020.
Research carried out by GoCompare has identified the breeds of dog that have seen their value jump the most over lockdown.
With prices going up by £2,250, the breed to have seen the average cost go up the most across the UK was the Brazilian Dogo.
This was followed in second place by the ever-popular Retriever, the various varieties of which have seen average prices jump by £2,050 - from £450 to around £2,500.
Bulldogs round out the top three most sought-after doggos, with their value jumping by £1,728 per pup.
The breeds that have seen the biggest increase in value are:

- Russian Black Terrier - £1,278
- Poodle (miniature) - £1,268
- Musterlander (small) - £1,150
- American Cocker Spaniel - £1,122
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - £1,112
- Corgi - £1,083
- Chow Chow - £1,077
Among the other breeds to have seen their value rocket by over £1,000 include Beagles (£1,002) and English Toy Terriers (£1,025).
This trend is not just limited to dogs either - cats have also seen a boom, with the black longhair’s average value going up by £687 to a hefty £887.
