Push Pin vs. Threaded Screw Flat Back Piercing Jewelry

Flat back stud earrings are so comfortable to wear - they don't poke you like traditional butterfly back earrings, and they make for a beautiful ear party from every angle.

We make flat back earrings in two different styles at Maison Miru: Push Pin Flat Backs (aka threadless or press fit labret earrings) and Threaded Screw Flat Backs that you can use to level up your ear game. Which one is right for you? We made this guide just for you.

Push Pin

Push Pin flat back earrings have a top with a super thin, bendable post that you insert into the labret backing. The post should be bent - this is how the front piece secures into the backing.

Note that if the post is not bent, your stud earring will fall out of its backing. The more bend in your post, the more secure your earring will be.

How to put it on:

1. Insert the back post into your ear from the back of your ear.

2. Insert the pin halfway into the post.

3. Slightly bend the pin by pushing it against the backing. The more of a bend, the tighter the earring will stay in the backing.

4. Fully push in the pin into the post to secure it.

How to take it off:

1. Pull both ends of the earring in opposite directions (If you are having trouble taking off your jewelry, twist the pin while you pull.)

Pros:

✅ Push pin earrings are the easiest to wear

✅ Stays in really well (Only comes off when you pull really hard)

✅ Great for tiny, dainty styles

Cons:

❌ Could fall out if not bent properly

Threaded Screw

Threaded screw flat back earrings have a top with a screw attached to the bottom. This screw secures to the threaded labret backing for an extra secure fit. Know that the earrings may loosen as you wear them (especially while sleeping or if you touch your earrings). This is completely normal: just tighten them every few days or so to make sure they stay in securely.

How to put it on:

1. Insert the back post into your ear from the back of your ear.

2. From the front of your ear, start to insert the front piece into the back post. Make sure that the threading is aligned to the post before tightening to ensure it is secure - if it is not, you may strip the threading. You may want to hold on to the base of the post to loosen and tighten your jewelry.

3. Rotate the front piece (while holding the back piece) to tighten and secure your jewelry.

How to take it off:

1. Hold both pieces of the jewelry.

2. Unscrew the top jewelry by rotating it.

Pros:

✅ Great for larger styles for extra stability

Cons:

❌ Slightly more difficult to screw on by yourself
