My Airpods paired with my iPhone 7 plus skip during music playback. Sometimes some bad there is static and a long pause. Tried pairing to my iPad pro. Music has no issues wondering if there is an issue in iOS with the Bluetooth.

I had the same issue. I found this page about resetting AirPods to Factory Default. So far so good.

https://gearpatrol.com/2017/04/03/factory-reset-apple-airpods/

1. Go to Bluetooth settings on your device. Forget your AirPods.

2. Make sure both AirPods are in their case. Open the lid so you can see the indicator light.

3. Hold the button on the back of the case until the light starts flashing amber. (Some Apple forum threads say this should take 3–5 seconds, but on my AirPods it took about 15 seconds.)

4. After the amber light blinks three times, release the button and close the lid.

5. Place your AirPods adjacent to your iPhone and hold the button on the back of the case again. A pairing screen should appear on your iPhone. Press “Connect” and you should be good, with both AirPods should work properly together again.

I had the same issue, was ready to return them, did the connect and disconnect thing a few times, to no avail. If you go to Settings > Bluetooth > find Airpods in list > blue I in circle > shut off Automatic Ear Detection - worked for me, just have to turn music off and on manually now instead of it turning on when it touches my ear skin. I double tap my left ear to play/pause. Hope it works for you.

Hi there, shortyadam. Welcome to the Apple Support Communities and thanks for your question about your AirPods skipping, playing static, and having long pauses during music playback. Nothing like skipping a beat to affect your music-listening pleasure. I'm happy to help today. My first recommendation would be to un-pair and then pair the AirPods with your iPhone. To remove the AirPods from your iPhone:
  1. on your iPhone open the Settings app
  2. select Bluetooth
  3. under MY DEVICES select the (i) next to the AirPods
  4. select Forget This Device
Then pair your AirPods again.

Use your AirPods

Please let me know if this resolves the AirPods skipping music for you. Kindly. Reply

I'm having the same problem. Airpods work great on iPad. I connect them to my iPhone and the music lags and skips around. Just started happening. I've unpaired and re-paired them and that didn't work. I've reset network setting and that didn't work. I'm working with an Apple support rep and I'm sure now they will want me to restore my iPhone to factory settings, which I'm not doing. I haven't done anything different today compared to yesterday when they were working fine.

Someone please help. These things were too expensive not to work correctly.

Thanks for trying that, shortyadam. Let's check for any potential interference to see if that's the culprit.

Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference

Since you're able to use your AirPods with your iPad Pro, are you using your AirPods someplace different with your iPhone 7? Are you able to connect other Bluetooth devices to your iPhone 7? Best wishes. Reply

Hi,

Did you find a solution for this problem?

Sounds exactly like my situation:

- iPhone 6 - very sensitive reception, can't even put phone in front pocket of my jeans

- iPhone 5s - no problem at all

I have tried un-pairing and repairing the Pods to the iPhone several times with no change in skipping during playback.

Same issue for me. There has to be something going on my iPhone 7's Bluetooth. Music plays great on iPad. Very strange and this issue didn't always happen so I'm not sure what changed.
