The CA15-3 (Carbohydrate Antigen 15-3) is a glycoprotein circulating in the blood, from the mucin’s family. It is over expressed by tumor cells. This marker provides assistance in the therapeutic monitoring of patients with breast cancer and detection of recurrence after remission. The average value of the assay greater than 30U/ml is related to the extension stage of the lesion. We assayed the CA15-3 of 112 blood samples from women with breast cancer from different provinces in western Algeria after chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The same assay was performed on 50 samples controls. We studied the relationship between dosage CA15-3 and SBR grade (Scarff Bloom and Richardson) according to age groups. The results indicated that 58.03% of breast cancer with an SBR grade II, have a normal average CA15-3 of 23.53 ± 0.9U/ml (≤ 30U/ml). The highest average value is observed in SBR grade III with 69 ± 1.02U/ml (>30U/ml) or 39.28% of the cases. The average age is around 50 ± 1 year. The average concentration of CA15-3 in healthy subjects is 2.45 ±0.2U/ml with a mean age of 49 ± 1 year. A highly significant correlation was observed between the average value of CA15-3 and SBR grade III. The average value of CA15-3 gradually increases with the presence of recurrence. The assay CA15-3 appears to be very important in the prognosis and therapy monitoring.
