So, I'm a bit unclear on how the Fortitude stat works. If I have boosted Fortitude (mine is at 20), and I'm standing in the same room as someone with base fortitude (0)... will we both have the same "overheated" HUD icon based on the ambient temperature, and I will just become thirsty at a slower rate? Or does my higher Fortitude level mean that it will require a higher temperature (compared to my base-level counterpart) before the "overheated" HUD icon will show up?

I just want to make sure I'm understanding the mechanics properly, since thirst has become much more significant of a factor in Scorched Earth than it ever was on The Island. I'd hate to be running for cover from the heat just because my HUD says it's hot out, even though I have the Fortitude to handle it without issue.

Fortitude raises your ability to resist heat and cold. In combination with protective clothing and shelter, it can make the difference between survival under extreme conditions, or being killed by the same.

Thanks. Now try reading past the first sentence of the original post before you reply.

Check your icon on the far left. That is one indicator how you are being affected by the heat. As a new player, I was under the shelter of a rock overhang for protection from the Mega Heat. It was 120*f at the time. This example showed My character was just hot and not going into heat stroke from the big flame.

Megaheat also showed up during the night. It only brought the temperature from ice cube to comfortable. That made no sense at all.

from what i know it increases your insulation from both hyper, hypo (I checked with my brother). So the heat of cold has to reach a higher or lower temperature to have it show you the icons of cold or hot.

Okay, maybe I'm not making my question clear enough. What I'm asking is, does your Fortitude stat have any impact on what temperature the heat/cold HUD icons appear at? Or do the icons appear at a set temperature for all players, and Fortitude only changes how strongly you're impacted by those status effects?

So, for example, say you have two players - one with Fortitude at 0 (we'll call him Survivor A), and one with Fortitude at 20 (who we will call Survivor B). They are standing in the same place, out in the open, when the temperature begins to rise. Will Survivor A see the "overheated" flame icon show up on his HUD at a lower temperature than Survivor B? Or will they both see the HUD icon appear at the same time, and Survivor B will simply be less dramatically impacted by the status effect?

Fortitude MAKES SEVERE COLD OR HEAT AFFECT YOU LESS.. as applies to the temperature aspect of the stat. Basically, you will lose water/food/health slower the higher your fortitude is as compared to the temperature you're in.

Sorry if it came across a little snippy, but it's a bit frustrating when you're trying to ask a very specific question and people apparently think that means you don't know how to read a wiki entry. I understand the general idea that "Fortitude makes you less affected by temperature." That is a vague statement, and I have a specific question about how that mechanic manifests itself in the game and how I should interpret the HUD information related to it. I'd appreciate if someone could answer that question, instead of the question I didn't ask (in other words, "what does the Fortitude stat do in general").

I have noticed on playing The Center map where my character has a fortitude of 40. The temperature has to go down to about 45*f before my character gets the snowflake icon. With a torch, it can be 28*f and no ice cube. That is with hide armor.

As this works both way, depending on the insulating value of the armor, the flame icon appears at a higher temperature for my 40 fortitude then for the character first starting out at 0.

In short; a high fortitude number does make a difference at what temperature those warning icon appear.

Scorched Earth is the first time I have seen being under a cliff overhang affect heat which allowed my character to survive day one. It does affect the ability to refill water when it is raining just like being inside shelter. To control heat and cold, Thatch helps some, wood and a tent better, adobe the best, and metal worse then being outside.

Fortitude increases your resistance to Heat and Cold incrementally, because the temperatures on Scorched are so severe, it takes more fortitude to resist the weather. Fortitude also makes you harder to knock out. For example, one of my tribemates with 0 Fort gets knocked out by a Club in 2-3 hits, while it takes 7-8 for me at 26 Fortitude.

Long story short, it's both. I know you already got a bit of an answer but it does both of those things.

I think the reason you still see the Hud Icons is it still affects you both cause its soo severe, yet with more fortitude you have less effects that are affect you adversely.   Plus what others have stated.  I'm running with 30 on Scorched earth and I'm pretty fine for the most part, just have to watch during extreme events and such.

I can't tell if you're just trolling, or if you seriously didn't read a single other post in this thread...

Yeah, my character had 60 fortitude on the island and heat really isn't much of an issue in SE for me.  I haven't been to the sand dunes yet but even when the temperature hits 140+F i hardly take any damage.

fortitude has to be broke right now, I have a fort of 24 and tribemate has a fort of 0, he doesn't overheat with Flak and I'm overheating with desert cloth standing in the same spot.

On mention of clubbing, I've had my fortitude over 40 a few times, tribe mate started punching me and we realized I was going to die from hp damage before getting knocked out. Also funny in pvp when people think your down and out and you pop back up in couple seconds.

The simple answer is yes it does effect at which degree of temp makes the icons pop up but not by much...this i smost easily seen in a private server where you can get 300+ rfortitude and run around naked in ice caves with no freeze
