Hi,

is there any island map that shows, in which regions we can find what quantities of crystals (and other elements)? URLs welcome!

If you're looking for an in-game map, I'm sure there's a mod out there for it. Otherwise there's the wiki, which has some decent maps:http://ark.gamepedia.com/Crystal For Crystal/obsidian/metal, the best thing to remember is mountains. They're all on mountains. There's plenty of crystal/metal in caves, but those can be fiendish to get, and time consuming.  The snow biome is also a resource paradise for crystal, you don't even need a map, just follow the coast/ridges and it's all over the place

Thank you very much for these good hints. My appreciation. A last question: which of these areas have weaker creatures? I am not a very good fighter.

No problem! And for that you'll want my favorite crystal location, it's (if you look at the map) the little dot at the bottom middle of the southern isles. Its a small hill, barely a mountain, that you can easily walk up. There's occasionally a raptor or two, and very rarely a carno, so it's usually very safe.  It's not pictured on that map, but from that point, just to the northeast (southeast of the mountain in what will soon be the redwood biome) there's another tiny hill with crystals on top, again, easy to get to with a raptor or two at worst.  The best thing you can do is ride an anklyo to them. Ankylos are very, very slow, but they're tough, have good knockback, and harvest crystals WAY better than your pick can. Even with a metal pick I can get nothing but stone from a crystal node! Ankylos often get 6-12 crystal from a single node. That being said, ankylos can't fit into caves :( I strongly reccomend using a flyer to fly up there (if you don't have an ankylo) since its fast and safe, but crystal is heavy, 1 pound per crystal, so be prepared for that.  Lastly, the two mountains in the northeast (top right) are very rich in crystal, but often have Gigas up there. It is NOT worth the risk. If you see them close to a node, just leave. I've died, losing crystals and animals because I thought I could outrun them. So be careful! The safest bet is the volcano to the west (just south of the snow biome) since, in my experience, there's no animals there and TONS of crystal/obsidian/metal, but there's a lot of angry animals on the way up, so if you don't fly in, it could be a battle.  Good luck!

Most places where you will find good amounts of crystal will have the more dangerous dinos around.

True, which is why I reccomend those two small hills to the south and (if you can fly to it) the volcano. Also good is the top of whitesky peak, I've yet to see any animals there, buuuut the cold makes it one heck of a rough time! The other mountains are swarming with Gigas, for my singleplayer at least. I have to admin DestroyAllDinos every once in a while since they can reach up to a dozen gigas...per peak. They're crawling over themselves since nothing can kill them (I sure can't, yet) and new ones occasionally replace the spawn of something smaller thats died nearby.  I wonder if it's like that for you guys on servers?

Plus one on flying into the Volcano. If you can do that it's easy street. Even better if you have an anky with you.

Tip: If you do take a dino up there. Do not leave it in the basin where the rocks spawn. The rocks will spawn on them and make the dino go poof. Gone.

Leave them on the lip around the north of the volcano. Nothing spawns up there.

Am on level 49 or so, but never attempted taming any animal yet. Will do so very soon.   :-D

I'm going to make a guess that you are playing on the ARK Island and not the Center map.  If you have a raft you can head north, following the coast line (my base is in the south, almost the middle of that area, near the peninsula) so I head west, then north.

Anyhow, head up north and not too far in the snow biome there is a section that has crystals and  no   dinos in that small area.  My suggestion is that you build a cabin on your raft and have at the least a campfire and several torches near the tiller and one in the cabin.  That way you will stay warm enough to not freeze.  You can dash onto the ice and collect some crystals, dash back unload into storage chests and warm up, dash back and get some more, hurry back to unload and warm up.  Have plenty of cooked meat and berries (for water) in your inventory.  There is also a small area nearby, don't remember exactly where, that along the shoreline you can get into the water and get pearls pretty much without having to worry about the megladons.  Not to say they aren't there, but you can stay close enough to shore that you can get out quick enough so you won't become a snack.

I put a foundation on my raft  some pillars and built half a "roof" to put a small cabin and a bed inside and a fireplace just over-top where the tiller is at; although I haven't tried it yet.  You could consider that and I think it will keep you warm enough so you can be in the north snow biome and not freeze to death.  You want to still have the campfire and torches near the tiller, for extra warmth, but you should be able to handle the cold well enough to be able to get crystals and some pearls.

You say you head west then up north along the western coast to the snow biome?

If you are talking about the area around 38,16 that place is very dangerous. Nothing but sabers, rexes, scorpions and argies that respawn almost instantly. Alphas are common as well.

Don't know the coordinates, my son went there first and I have traveled there once.  I live near the peninsula we both went west, then turned north following the coastline.  It was just as you enter the snow biome, just don't remember the exact location.  My son played on SP also and he traveled there three or four times and although there sabers, wolves and mammoths in another area close by, water separated this small section and he was able to travel there several times without any fur/pelt and collect crystals, pearls and even some oil.   No predators ever showed up there so he was safe to collect without worrying about being attacked.  We are taking a break, waiting on some income so he can buy a new computer and we can rent a server.

If you haven't see a spot like that, it could be that he had a glitch and he was lucky and able to collect in peace.

The first time he went there, he was hunting mammoths for pelts.  He got one and three dire wolves.  Unfortunately, he was attacked as he was heading back to his raft by more direwolves and as he was backing up he didn't see the rex behind him and died.  Lost his pelts, crystals and pearls.  Should have listened to me and built a small hut part way up and put a bed in it.  Or at least a bedroll on his raft.  By the time he built a raft and got back to his body, he lost everything.

Oh it was a glitch or he just got really lucky. That's right where my base is. If I walk outside right now I guarantee there will be ~3 argies, 4 scorpions, a rex, 2 ankys and some sabers all fighting each other. It's why I moved there :) Plus in the 10 days I've been settled in I've killed 2 alpha rexs and 6 alpha raptors, 1 alpha carno.

That aside, there is the icly flows area just north and then you get the mammoths, dire wolves, argies, rexes.

It's a good place to grab some oil, crystal and pearls just don't do it alone.

That's the real problem with this spot, you can clear it all out and the stuff spawns back in mere minutes.

The area pictured can be dangerous.

Go further North. You can get oil and crystal with little or no opposition. Watch out for the force field around the iceberg. Further North on the North side of the Snow Biome, you can also pick up pearls along with crystal. Only some dilos to watch out for. The border areas are always loaded with predators.

He (and I) went further north along the coastline.  There is a cliff and one time several mammoths fell off.  One landed on his raft and stayed half way to his base, then stepped off and was walking on the bottom for a bit, then just disappeared.  I looked at a map I have that shows the long and lat, and I am thinking it is around lat 32, in that general area.  There was an fairly large iceberg close by.  He climbed up a large section and below was some water, He jumped off and swam around checking to see what was there.  I don't think a player at a low level could do the jump, but he is pretty high.  At the time that he was doing that trip he had fur clothing, so he was able to keep warm.

Below and to the left of where rpiardi1 is on his Pterandon is where he built his hut to use if he died.  I suggested he leave a raft there, but he tamed a Pterandon and he can now fly back to his raft if he dies.

If you look at the photo I posted, you can see two of them. Lots more can be found on the ice pack and on the icebergs.

Sailing around the main island, you can see oil leaking in the water. Some places are out deep, others very close to shore. The safest oil is from killing trilobites. They are often found in clusters in various shoreline areas in the South and East.

Metal pick with high melee on it and high melee on your character works wonders here.

No problem. Really for me the best way to get oil is tame a Dung Beetle. After I did that I had more oil than I can use.
