Quick Start Guide
So you decided you want to try GW2 TacO, but not sure how to start. It's easy:- Download the latest build (always the top link in the Downloads section on the right panel of this blog)
- Extract the downloaded zip to any folder - it doesn't have to be the GW2 folder, in fact it's better if it isn't. Just create a folder anywhere and put the contents of the zip in there.
- Run GW2 and log in, make sure the game is running in windowed or windowed fullscreen mode.
- Run GW2TacO.exe
- You're good to go.
- In the top left menu bar you'll see a new icon, a TacO
- You can move the different TacO windows around by clicking the TacO menu and selecting "Window edit mode". Resizing and moving the windows will be possible that way.
- Once you've moved the TacO windows to convenient locations, turn off "Window edit mode" the same way you enabled it.
- The rest of the TacO setup should be self explanatory through enabling/disabling stuff in the TacO menu
- The most popular marker packs can be enabled in the TacO menu, and once enabled they will be automatically downloaded and kept up to date
- For some of the features you'll need to create an API key at https://account.arena.net/applications. Currently the "account", "progression" and "characters" features of the API keys are used. You can add the API key through the TacO menu.

BoyC7 December 2018 at 17:31No, this doesn't work on linux to my knowledge.TacO uses the mumble API which works by the GW2 client opening a memory mapped file in the system at a specific url and writes the camera and other data in there for each frame. TacO opens this file as well and reads the data each frame.

BoyC25 February 2018 at 20:16Please send in the exe through the false positive reporting tools of bitdefender so they can check it out and add it to their white list.As for non arenanet http requests, taco checks this blog on startup for the latest version id, and the gw2taco:// links you may find on some marker pack sites will make taco download markers from where they point to.

BoyC7 December 2019 at 10:00Hi,yeah, they rearranged the menu and put the trading post icon at the end of the menu bar. That circle is supposed to show up around the TP red (!) icon if something changed in your tp wallet since you last checked. It'll be fixed (moved to the correct location) in the next build of TacO.

Cinna8 February 2021 at 14:39Hi, I can't use TacO, as it won't accept my API. I tried making 2 new ones, they have the right permissions and it recognises them (shows my acc handle which matches with my (only) acc that I'm using) but I still get the error message: "could not find any API key matching current account. Please add API key." Restarting etc. does not help either. I tried inserting it with copy paste as well as typing the whole thing, same result.Glad for any help with this.

Anonymous25 May 2022 at 22:53When i complete something, the icon does not disappear after completion, any help ?
ReplyDeleteReplies
BoyC25 May 2022 at 23:32That may be a marker pack issue (up to the creator of the marker pack) or may not be possible if there's no achievement/interaction that can be tracked to make things disappear.
DeleteReplies- Reply
Anonymous28 July 2022 at 01:57If you are too far from the marker location when completing an item, it will not remove the marker. It's possible to loot chests and some nodes from enough distance (or markers are slightly off) that this happens. Walking into the now empty spot under the marker and hitting 'F' as though you're collecting again will turn it off.
DeleteReplies- Reply
BoyC28 July 2022 at 07:21That's also a marker pack issue, the trigger range can be configured per marker.

Cephalon Rose7 August 2022 at 21:24Is there a way to fix the issue where shadowplay and Taco fight for the screen during recordings? If I have Taco open and start a shadowplay recording, the screen flickers back and forth every other frame between the game with no overlay, and a black screen with just the Taco info.Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteReplies
BoyC7 August 2022 at 21:51Since TacO is a separate directx application I'm guessing that shadowplay tries to record its output separately and on top of that it doesn't seem to support the alpha window mode TacO uses to render itself over GW2... So I'm afraid there's no solution on the TacO side that can be given to this issue.

BoyC15 August 2022 at 09:40A fix for that will come as soon as I have the time for it, for now you can edit the tacoconfig.xml file to put your api key in the entry that was opened when you tried to copypaste it. Make sure taco is not running while you're editing the xml.

BoyC1 March 2023 at 09:22Hi. I haven't tested the overlay with the steam version yet, it may be something regarding that that's the issue. Try disabling the steam overlay?
DeleteReplies- Reply
Alexandria Northman1 March 2023 at 14:18I have and am launching it directly from the game launcher itself, as though I downloaded it from the website (to avoid launching steam at all) and it still won't run. I notice a few other people seem to have had the same issue in the comments. While most it was a matter of not using windowed full screen a few never got it addressed and I wonder if there is a common factor. (1 of 2)

Alexandria Northman1 March 2023 at 14:20With that in mind, when I launch per instructions it goes through the demands for 'run as admin' pop up as expected, I grant it, cursor gives a little whirl and then... nothing. Not in game not in task manager. it's like it's failing to launch at all.
