News Raft Chapter 3 Update Still On Its Way With Lots Of New Content

Despite a period of silence on developer Redbeet's part, it looks like the Raft Chapter 3 update is still incoming. The devs are promising that even though Chapter 3 was a no-show in 2021, it's coming sometime in 2022, and it will add more content than either of the previous Chapters have.

What can we expect from the Raft Chapter 3 update?

Unlike the Renovation Update, which was a relatively minor addition to the game, Raft Chapter updates are pretty major. In a new dev blog posted to the Raft Steam community, Redbeet confirms that it's still working on the Chapter 3 update. There's plenty on the way in this update, too. You can look forward to new playable characters, each of whom will be connected to the location in which you find them. Redbeet says it's not ready to share details about these characters yet, but we do have a teaser image to give us an idea of what they might look like.

As well as these new characters, you're also getting new destinations. Redbeet shows off a rather nifty-looking building site with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. There's also what looks to be an icy research station, which Redbeet teased some time ago. The Raft story is getting overhauled in the Chapter 3 update too; all of the notes have been rewritten to make them easier to understand, and lots of unnecessary text has been removed to streamline the narrative experience. Finally, there are new trading outposts dotted around the world. You'll be able to process unwanted items into scrap cubes, which you can then trade into these outposts for items like hats, equipment, and cooking ingredients. What is Raft?

If you've never played Raft before, here's a quick primer. It's essentially an open-world survival crafting game, similar to titles like Subnautica or The Long Dark (the latter of which got an update just last month, if you're into your survival games). Your goal is to build a raft on which you can survive at sea, fishing for whatever food you can find and gathering resources to upgrade your new home. If you love survival experiences, Raft should be right up your alley.

You can grab Raft on Steam right now, where it's currently in Early Access. Although there have been a wave of indie survive-'em-ups, including the aforementioned Subnautica and its sequel, Below Zero, Raft feels like a pretty solid proposition even in its crowded field. We'll bring you more on this one, including when you can expect the long-awaited Raft Chapter 3 update to launch, as soon as we get it.
