A small amount of smoke coming from the oven during a Self-Clean cycle may occur as the soil is burned off of the oven interior. A small amount of smoke is considered normal. Any excessive amount of spillover such as juices, oil or liquid grease which is not baked on should be wiped out of the oven before running a Self-Clean cycle. If a lot of smoke occurs during Self-Cleaning, it is caused by excessive grease or soil inside the oven.

 

We recommend that you ventilate the kitchen by opening windows or turning on an exhaust fan while performing the Self-Clean cycle.

 

Eliminating Excessive Smoke During a Self-Clean Cycle

  1. Switch the oven to Off. To do this, press the Clear/Off or Cancel/Off pad to stop the Self-Clean cycle.

  2. Allow the oven to cool at least one hour. The oven must cool down before the Self-Clean lock mechanism will release. Then, you can open the oven door.

  3. Correct the condition which caused the flames or excessive smoking. For example, wipe away grease or soil in the oven.

  4. Start the Self-Clean cycle again.
