NBC’s first Formula 1 telecast of the season was on par with last year. In other news, ratings and viewership dropped by double-digits for the NCAA Lacrosse Championship, and ESPN had a decline for Nationals/Cubs on Tuesday night.
F1 From Monaco on Par With Last Year
- Formula 1 racing from Monaco earned a 0.9 final rating and 1.3 million viewers on NBC last Sunday morning, virtually flat in both measures compared to last year (0.9, 1.3M) and down a tick and 7%, respectively, from 2013 (1.0, 1.4M). The race earned the third-largest F1 audience since the NBC family of networks began airing races in 2013. (twitter.com/nbcsportspr)
NCAA Lacrosse Championship Down Double-Digits
- Monday’s Denver/Maryland NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship earned a 0.2 final rating and 333,000 viewers on ESPN2, down a tick in ratings and 28% in viewership from Duke/Notre Dame last year (0.3, 459K) and down 50% and 52%, respectively, from Duke/Syracuse on ESPN in 2013 (0.4, 688K). The Pioneers’ win attracted fewer viewers than other recent NCAA championships, including wrestling in March (694K) and hockey in April (635K). Keep in mind those telecasts aired in primetime. (ESPN)
Despite Young Stars, Nationals/Cubs Down on ESPN
- Tuesday’s Nationals/Cubs Major League Baseball game earned 721,000 viewers on ESPN, down 20% from Red Sox/Braves on the day after Memorial Day last year (903K). Keep in mind that was one week later in the season. Braves/Dodgers earned 719,000 viewers later in the night. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
