The results of the search were pathetic to boot. Company is a front for ancestry.com apparently.. Feels like a scam.

Beware 7-Day Free Trial Rip-off

In August last year, I used the Archives.com 7-day FREE trial to find details of a cousin who died 50 years ago. I was on the site for a few minutes only. I had not used it again until I discovered they have been charging me £8.95 each month. I was not aware I had signed up and no reminder to cancel or confirm was given. I have been in touch with them and received only platitudes about how they 'care' for their customers. Apparently they have 'thoroughly reviewed' my refund request and are unable to help!!! Yet another disreputable company taking advantage of the uninitiated. Shameful

Pitiful, would not recommend.

A pitiful pay-to-view search engine that points you to snippets of possibly incorrect data which you have to further pay-to-view held in another repository i.e. Newspaper.com or Ancestry (which I'm rebranding Bancestry). Why it's legal to withhold viewing our own census data from us, I don't know!

I am so mad at Archives.com

I am so mad at Archives.com. I dealt with them last month and demanded the person I spoke with on the phone to cancel my subscription and give me my money back. Now today a month later I am having to deal with the same thing because they are stealing money off my card and I cannot take it off of their website. I do not trust them with my card number because they are taking money off without my permission. It automatically takes it off but yet I have canceled my subscription. Now I have had to cancel my subscription again because they stole another $10 from me. To be exact $9.99. I hope this review finds a lot of you because they are scamming people and they don't give you the information you need.

I am very dissatisfied with my membership to Archives.com because trying to research a specific person is tedious. You can enter a specific person, location, and date and get back 50,000 persons that have absolutely nothing to do with your search.

I went through ancestry to access archives.com who were not helpful.I cancelled my membership within the 7 day time period and like everyone else here I too was ripped off but what makes me sick is the fact that ancestry is in on it as well they are affiliated with them or they wouldn't have them on their website.I also cancelled my membership with them also .ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY NEVER AGAIN.

I used them to look up divorce certificate and paid $60.00 to order it. Never received it. Called them up wanting to be reimbursed since they never sent me my order. They said on their fine print that they don’t reimburse you even if you don’t get your order. What a rip off.

I have to leave 1 star in order to leave a review. My friend was looking for a relatives death date, I let them use my credit card since they don't use them. Unfortunately I had no way of knowing how to cancel until it showed I was charged a monthly subscription. I contacted them on the 4th & received a reply telling me to enjoying my subscription for the next 30 days after I had explained I never used the service, only once did my friend during the trial period & canceled on the 4th but was renewed on the 3rd. I DON'T WANT THEIR SUBSCRIPTION. I'LL NEVER USE IT. THEY MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO CANCEL BECAUSE THATS HOW THEY MAKE MONEY, BY NOT CANCELING AND CHARGING FOR A SERVICE I DID NOT EVER WANT. BAD BUSINESS & GREED!!! AND USELESS SITE!!!!

This company is a scam

This company is a scam. They pretend to be a part of Ancestry.com, but are not related! Don't pay them anything! They will list themselves as Archives.co.uk on your bank statement, but that domain is not owned by them and they have no legitimate right to use it.

Avoid, avoid avoid.

I took out a 7 day free trial but decided the same day that I did not want a longterm subscription so looked to see how to cancel, expecting a cancel or unsubscribe feature to be built in, a button to click etc. Instead I was directed to email customer services which I have now done four times, including on the day I took out the subscription and have had nothing except holding emails asking for the information which I had already sent them. The payment is due to come out tomorrow and I have just spent nearly 40 minutes on the phone to my bank and have now had to literally cancel my card in an effort to stop this payment being taken. I am absolutely disgusted- I have been extremely stressed recently and was trying to work on my family tree as a way of distracting myself and having some peaceful down time and I have endured so much stress because of this vile company. £8.95 might not seem much to many people but I lost my job at the end of last year and money is very tight, and it's just not right to do this tto people. This company are a total nightmare and should be avoided at all costs.

Scam, dogpudding service that is nearly impossible to unsubscribe from had to literally cancel my debit card to stop them from taking out $15 every month. Avoid at all costs!

I received a free trial and immediately…

I received a free trial and immediately learned that the site failed to produce the record I needed. Since they charged my PayPal account it has been a nightmare dealing with receiving a “bonafide refund” of 77.00. Again I requested this the following day but still my Amex linked to my account has not been credited. I have called them multiple times and then was told I needed to contact USA archives or another entity to issue the refund. After speaking to them I was told that I again it landed with Archives. Please do not allow them to scam you. I am ready to write the parent company ancestry.com as certainly the customer service is horrible and someone should bring a class action suit for breach of contract to the company. I cannot imagine how many people have been erroneously charged spending egregious time and money trying to get some recourse. Please be careful. Best, SG

I tried the free trial but I did not…

I tried the free trial but I did not find what I was looking for. Every time I tried to cancel my membership to avoid a charge I got a message saying my email was not recognised and I tried to update it and amend my details but the system just kept stating my email was incorrect. I then got charged. When I emailed Archives to let them know of this fault in their system they apologised for the inconvenience and confirmed my membership was cancelled but my charge is non refundable. I am disgusted and am wondering if this was a scam. A reputable company would refund money due to their faulty system. I would not recommend this company to anyone. There was no error with my email.
