Realistic Quarterback Options For Colts After Trading Carson Wentz

After trading away Carson Wentz, the Indianapolis Colts will look to veteran quarterbacks to fill the team’s void.
After just one season, Carson Wentz is no longer a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Following a month of speculation, Indy officially traded Wentz to the Washington Commanders.
Shipping away Wentz and a 2022 second-round pick, the Colts got back Washington’s 2022 second-round pick, a 2022 third-round pick, and a 2023 third-round pick that could elevate to a second if Wentz plays 70% of offensive snaps for the Commanders.
Additionally, Washington agreed to take on all of Wentz’s contract. That will help the Colts enter the new league year with roughly $70 million in cap space.

Unfortunately, Indianapolis will not be able to use this money on a big-ticket quarterback. That isn’t because they are unwilling to, it’s because there aren’t any available.
Colts have limited options at quarterback
Aaron Rodgers decided to stay with the Green Bay Packers, Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, and the quarterback that some would say was Indy’s best remaining option was just traded to the Washington Commanders.
That leaves Indianapolis deciding from a group of veteran quarterbacks that all have various question marks or would be considered a downgrade from Carson Wentz.
Either way, Wentz is gone and the Colts aren’t going to land an elite quarterback in this stage of the offseason. So fans will either have to embrace Sam Ehlinger or warm up to the idea of one of these veteran quarterbacks that Indy has to choose from.
Here are the Colts’ realistic options at quarterback for the 2022 season.
