– Ensure the room you are in is closed off to sound as much as possible. Ensure you are well lit, and that the light source is not behind you.
– Go to webex.com – click on “sign-in” in the top right corner – select “WebEx Meetings” the left option of the three that appear
– Sign in with your @gwu.edu email address – When prompted “Which webex site do you want to use?” select gwu.webex.com Note: You may be prompted to sign in through the GWU network (like for email)
– You will be taken to a screen that has the GWU logo in the top left corner and you should see a green button that says “Start Meeting” Note: If you do not see menu options along the top and left hand side, click on the circular button in the upper right corner with three horizontal lines. You should now see options along the top for “Home” “Webex Meetings” “Webex events” etc. And along the left side for “My Meetings” “My Personal Room” “My Recordings” etc. The latter is where you will access your recorded session after you are done.
– Click the large green button to “Start Meeting” – A window will pop up indicating it is your “Personal Room” – Ensure that audio and video are available – you may be prompted to give Webex permissions in your system preferences.
– Click “Start Meeting” – The window will expand and the “session” will have started. Note: your session will not be recorded yet. Your personal video window will appear small, but that is what will be recorded as full screen. Ensure the background of your video is to your liking and you are framed the way you prefer.
– Move your mouse to the bottom of the webex window to see circular button options appear. In the center, there is a recorder button. – Once you click on this button, you will be prompted to select “Record” – once recording, the timestamp will start.
– Begin speaking
– When you are finished, click “stop” in the Recorder window. You will be prompted again to “Stop recording”
– Click the red “X” on the far right of the circular buttons on the bottom and select “end meeting”
– Return to your webex browser window
– Select “My Recordings” on the left side menu. Note: it may take a few minutes for your recording to appear depending on how long it was. You may need to refresh the recordings page. Click on the blue arrows button in the top right of the “My Recordings” window to refresh the data.
– Once the recording is available, test the video by clicking on the green play button on the right side of the video data. Ensure sound is at a good volume.
– Click on the title of the recording (probably “Your Name’s Personal Room – # sequence)
– On the right side of the page, select “Send Email” under “Share My Recording” – send to appropriate parties if further editing is required.
