Remembering A Legend: Today Marks 30 Years Since Lane Frost's ...

The world of rodeo remembers a legend today with the anniversary of the tragic death of one of "rodeo's greats" who continues to heavily influence the sport, long after his death. July 30, 2019, marks 30 years since the passing of bull riding legend and 1987 PRCA world champion Lane Frost.
“The thing that has surprised me the most is how his legacy has lived on,” Frost’s mother, Elsie, said in a PRCA press release. “I just never dreamed after 30 years that anyone would even mention him or remember him, and of course, we have to give the movie 8 Seconds a little bit of credit for that."
See the full PRCA story on prorodeo.com to read details of Frost's life told from the perspective of his sister, Robin Muggli.
Rodeo fans continue to remember Frost, not only through the movie 8 Seconds, but in the rodeo arena as his second cousins Joe and Josh Frost continue the tradition he started. The brothers currently sit in the No. 45 and No. 11 spot in the world respectively.
It's safe to say they would be making their late cousin proud.
Frost's name also lives on with the creation of the Lane Frost Brand, created by Stetson Frost, the nephew of the late rodeo superstar. Frost may not have ever had a chance to truly get to know his uncle, but he continues to share his story and values through the brand.
"His memory is alive today in all the young bull riders that strive to be like him and his fans, who carry his champion spirit," the Lane Frost Brand website states. "To many, Lane is remembered as the epitome of an American cowboy. This year, 30 years after his passing, we want to celebrate his life and legacy with those who love and remember him."
So even 30 years after his passing, Frost's legacy lives on in every bull rider doing what he loves, every time the announcer honors Lane when Joe and Josh are in the chute, and every time you see a kid playing sandbox bull rider, waving to the crowd with both hands in the signature Lane Frost way.
Here's to you, Lane.
