We used dental floss to cut plate off from the sticky tape. Now it comes to the most important step. We need advice how to safely remove the 3M VHB sticky tape from the tint. If you have this kind of experience, please share your ideas. Thank you very much, niko

Later just wipe away all small excess with cloth. OP OP H

If you use hair-dryer with adjustable heat at low or mid heating position, there is no problem to damage, or you can wait hot sunny day until inside car reaches high temperature, start softening a 3m vhb. You may also turn on rear windows heating on, this may help soften a glue. Take credit card and with its corner gently start scraping off a glue layer by layer. It will take time, but if you have a patience you will be able to remove most of the thickest layer, then there will be left only very thin glue layer which can be wiped off with cloth. Dont use any solvent based liquids, this may damage your tint. Sunny

I used hair dryer and dental Floss but I did it on the window side so some of the tape was still attached on the mount when I was done. Some remaining bits on window came out when I tapped them with bigger piece of the glue while it was still hot. A pita for sure. road_rascal

Not sure if alcohol or solvent based liquids are good on aftermarket tinted windows ? Have you used alcohol on regular windows or tinted one ? Sunny

Working with cheaper brand names films is always risky, but Crystalline is well know high quality. Best if you call or e-mail to 3M office, explain situation and they can recommend the best way what to use in order to remove 3M VHB from their film. I guess waiting 1-2 days for e-mail replay is worth than risking in damaging a film. M

First I warm a little bit the sticky residues and then I use toilet paper to make them less sticky. For the moment, the result is a mess: a mixture between glue and traces of toilet paper. I then apply WD40 and let it couple of seconds. After that I use a clean tissue and all these residues clean extremely easily. Without applying the paper, it will not work (at least in my case). C

After that it was easy to pull the tape from the glass starting at a corner and stretching it as you pull - gently and patiently. I know window tint makes things different, but the point is you won't necessarily have to scrape, which seems to me would be risky. I'm sure the OP has resolved this one way or another by now though! Dude how are You?... I've been using a dash cam with a vent mount. Every time i wanted i mounted it and dismounted it with ease. Now i want to change it for a less visible cam. One of these that stick behind the mirror. Now; my only concern is if the glue will hold up in the tint paper... specially on extreme heat... will it damage the paper?... will it fall?... What is your experience with these type of glue mounted dash cams?... Thanks in advance man! T

But then UK summers don't compare to some other places. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk You must log in or register to reply here.
