The flashlight keeps on triggering in my pants front pocket. It drains my battery and I end noticing the light is on when the phone becomes very hot. How can I remove this short cut from the lock screen ?

Lawrence the flashlight is actually on the lock screen and can be activated by a push on the icon directly on the lock screen on iPhone X.

To the OP. If I had your phone, I wouldn't remove the flashlight from lockscreen. I'd turn off Tap to Wake. What's happening is as your phone is being jostled as you walk, the screen is becoming active. Turning off Tap to Wake would fix this without you having to remove the flashlight. Your choice of course, but if you want to do this:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Turn off Tap to Wake

It drains my battery and I end noticing the light is on when the phone becomes very hot. How can I remove this short cut from the lock screen? I like the ability to turn on the camera, and don't want to deactivate tap/touch to activate, as this works well. It's the flashlight that causes the issue, heat, and battery drain. Also, I don't want to fully disable 3D touch, as I use that in other places. 6019 3
  • How to remove flashlight from Lock Screen Is it possible to remove the flashlight from the lock screen on an iPhone . I see online suggestions like turn off "raise to wake" or turn off "tap to wake" . These are methods to assist in preventing from inadvertent turning on the flashlight. These suggestions are based on the premise that the screen is being tapped (or equivalent) while the phone is in your pocket. I don't want to turn of raise to wake or tap to wake ... as I like the functionality that both provide . I'm not convinced , either that this will resolve my issue as I have been paying great attention to where I tap the screen for "tap to wake" and have been totally avoiding the lower left quadrant of the screen where the flashlight bottom is located. I just simply want to remove the flashlight button from the Lock Screen. I suspect this is a hard coded function of iOS and cannot be removed. 30948 8

It isn't on the lock screen, it's on the control center. So to activate it you must swipe up on the lock screen to view the control center, then tap the flashlight. One way fix this is to disable the control center on the lock screen. Go to Settings/Touch ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, and turn off Control Center.

Another way to just disable the flashlight is to go to Settings/Control Center, tap Customize Controls, and tap the "-" next to Flashlight. This will still leave all of the other controls on Control Center for you to butt-activate, however.

I have NEVER EVER carried any iPhone in my pocket. I never will. My iPhone X is housed in a very safe and secure clip case, which keeps the phone screen protected when not in use, but permits exposing the screen when in use.

I guess this is the best of the bad solutions I have to fix my issue untill they give us access to a setting option to use it or not on the lock screen. Though I really like tap to wake since there are no more button on the X and I use it a lot when at my desk to quickly unlock the phone. I whish it could be something a bit less easy like triple tap or something not likely to happen in a pocket though.

On top of this, with summer coming I find the tap to wake in the pocket a bit too sensitive, may be with the light sweat moist when it becomes hot outside. Thigh skin interacts more with the screen through trouthers pockets when it's hot outside. Last Cristmas holidays under the tropics turned out to be quite expensive in roaming since I kept calling my wife for 2 minutes (voice message lenght) each time from my pocket. I ended up with a 100€+ Bill at the end of the trip just from pocket calls.

I know I could also turn the screen facing front, not facing my thigh, but I do it to protect the screen should I bump into a table or a subway rolling barrier and damage the screen.

I have always carried my iPhones in my pocket without these horrid (plastic or other) protections. Why would you ruin a beautiful designed phone with a 10 dollar piece of xxxx?

If you fear so much for your phone subscribe to an insurance that will replace it if it breaks or get scratched.

That's the beauty of free choice. I choose to case my phone and never put it in my pocket. You choose to not do that. But then, I'm not the one here trying to figure out a workaround to my phone doing things I don't want it to. You are.

If people treated their phones with the delicate care they treat their laptops/computers, I wonder if less issues would pop up.

True, but the advantage to turning off Tap to Wake would help the OP not have his screen coming on and off as you walk around. This will save battery life significantly.
