jaged so i did just a front brake job on a coug and the pads were down to the metal, so LOTS of brake dust everywhere, even on the fender and door. She used a power washer and some industrial liquid cleaner with the power washer and it didnt come off. the local store said to use watered down acetone, i think a clay bar would get it off, or a meguires stage 1 cleaner wax. any other thoughts? #1 · Apr 19, 2006 so i did just a front brake job on a coug and the pads were down to the metal, so LOTS of brake dust everywhere, even on the fender and door. I have used clay bar to safely taken off bug guts, tar, and even paint from another car from when a stupid ***** opened her door into mine. Even if it doesn't work atleast you aren't out much money, and you know clay bar will not damage your paint. #3 · Apr 21, 2006 How about a wheel cleaner that says it's OK to use on painted wheels? Maybe Meguiar's Hot Rims? #4 · Apr 21, 2006 ttrried the claybar and it got most of it off. have to try the hot rims stuff, gotta get some any way for some nasty rims #5 · Apr 25, 2006 WD40 might do the trick as well, I've used it to remove thick tar, grease, and alot of miscelanoius junk accumulated under the hood. #6 · Apr 26, 2006 it came off with some long clay bar hours, but thanks for the tip, wouldnt have thought of that, but it makes sense though #7 · Apr 26, 2006 yeah, alot of people say that WD40 is rough on your paint/clearcoat, but I'm sure they also neglect to remember how water based WD40 is, it's not THAT bad. you're not washing the car in WD40, and likely wipe it clean afterwards (at least I'd expect someone to since they are using it to remove something) but it has no major after effects.....as long as the area is not completely saturated in it :) #8 · Apr 28, 2006 I had the same issue. I wore my brakes down to the metal, and the brake dust/metal embedded itself onto my paint and wheels like rail dust. A little clay barring helped a bit, but didn't get it all off, not to mention my claybar got filthy after only using it on the front passengers side of the car. I may have to spend an entire weekend clay barring the car to get it all off. Insert Quotes Post Reply
