brigade_bill May 2016 edited May 2016 rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser and u can check this out too http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-clean-the-stuff-left-by-a-peeled-off-label/ -
SK8ER May 2016 I'll have to try the eraser, I've tried rubbing alcohol in the past and it removes the shine from a stain. -
WakeInFright May 2016 Are you going to regrip it?
-
brigade_bill May 2016 well not like ur going to see it lol -
pulse8 May 2016 Perhaps @SK8ER wants to display the deck he speaks of? -
brigade_bill May 2016 maybe -
WakeInFright May 2016 Ask skully! -
SK8ER May 2016 edited May 2016 The deck is a Vision Lee Ralph Contortionist reissue with a lime green stain. I'm not happy with my grip job and want to redo it if I can remove all the goo and not mess up the beautiful stain. I don't collect or hang decks. Any deck I get I skate. -
brigade_bill May 2016 well it will get messed up anyway so u might as well get over it lol -
Sharks May 2016 Really? Does it HAVE to get messed up? I've seen some good grip removal jobs. But no idea how they work. I have a Claw with an atrocious grip job. Advice on removing it would be welcome this way too. -
brigade_bill May 2016 i guess it doesnt but i dont think it should really matter just like those ppl who are anal about their wheel bases like who gives a shit as long as there is enough space betwen the trucks for u to boardslide -
mr_scary May 2016 best thing in the world to remove adhesive is WD-40 and a terry cloth. works great and doesn't mess up paint, buff it out with a dry terry cloth, then microfiber, follow up with alcohol to remove any possible residue. but really the WD-40 will dry and you can apply new grip. -
WakeInFright May 2016 Totally agree about the wheelbase comment bb...it's like those geese who go on about board width, like if it isn't 7.5" it can't be flipped or something. Fruit loops
-
SK8ER May 2016 As a 200lb 42 year old wheelbase must be no shorter than 15" and width no less than 9". In my 30s I didn't care about wheelbase and width, but in my 40s I do. -
brigade_bill May 2016 lol :P -
WakeInFright May 2016 I was being sarky SK8ER, hence the specific mention of 7.5", bb's fave. Lol
-

skully May 2016 I would recommend Ronsonol lighter fluid. Works like a mother F'ing charm!!!!!
I have used this many, many times. Squirt it on, let is soak on the goo for a few seconds and scrap off with something such as a plastic razor blade or the edge of a credit card. (I save my key cards from hotels for this purpose) It won't take it all off at once, you have to take the majority off section by section (I would only do it in small amounts, like like a 3x3 inch area at a time), then come back later to get the residue of with more fluid and a napkin or paper towel or something. The only time I have had a problem is I think it does effect newer ink on some Powell Peralta decks. I have used it many old decks (80's) and never had a problem, but i did just use it on a McGill reissue from like 2009 and it removed some of the black outline on the silver dragon on the top logo. Most of all of the newer reissues I have removed grip from, the grip cam off fairly easy, most without any goo being left on the board at all. Depends how much it was ridden I suppose.I have never used the WD-40, so I can't comment on that. -
mr_scary May 2016 I have used lighter fluid before, WD-40 is the best by like 1000%, I used to use lighter fluid and 3in1 oil to clean guitar strings, but now I just use cottonseed oil for that. wd-40 will take away any adhesive goo very easily, and safe. no need for scraping just wipe it off, maybe a little agitating required. it shoul'nt hurt stain, but always try a little area to test it first. -
Sharks May 2016 Awesome! Will try both on a shit board and will choose the better on the Claw. Will report later. (Still waiting on the new series to ship before I ship my 33decks from the us
) -
ghostbuster May 2016 I was thinking WD-40 too, but I don't know about how it would affect the stain-- I've only used it to remove adhesive goo on plastic surfaces, which it's great for, along with a million other things. If you are really worried about the stain etc., maybe try baby oil first, and then move up to more caustic stuff. -
Sharks May 2016 Cool! Will do!
