Over the years, RE has built up an enormous amount of lore about all of its playable characters. So much so that it's hard to remember everything. So here are the basic things to know – birth year, age, and height – about all the playable characters in the mainline Resident Evil series as well as some of the more prominent side games.

Updated on June 2, 2024, By Chris Padilla: We've added the Survivors from Jack's Bar in the Outbreak games and Steve Burnside from Code Veronica. Most importantly, we've added an entry for beloved STARS member Barry Burton.

32 Kevin Ryman

  • Age: 31 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 6’0
  • Birth Year: 1967

Much like a good chunk of RE protagonists, Kevin Ryman is a member of the Raccoon Police Department. However, unlike Jill, Chris, or Barry, he was not a member of STARS. He applied but was screened twice, possibly for his cavalier attitude and his love of drinking and smoking.

Typical of his character, he’s drinking at Jack’s Bar when the Raccoon City outbreak hits critical and has to fight his way out of the nightmare with the other survivors feeling the bar. Of the RE Outbreak cast, he’s the most athletic and the best shot, not surprising given his status as a police officer.

31 Mark Wilkins

  • Age: 52 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 6’1
  • Birth Year: 1946

Of the survivors of the Outbreak, Mark might be having the worst night. In addition to everything else, his friend commits suicide to avoid becoming a zombie. For a security guard who stopped at Jack’s Bar for dinner with a buddy, things obviously got out of hand fast.

A Vietnam War vet, Mark Wilkins bears the scars of that conflict. He’s in top physical condition, even for people half his age and is the toughest of the group, able to survive attacks that would kill the others. He’s also quite strong.

30 George Hamilton

  • Age: 39 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 5’10
  • Birth Year: 1959

Head Surgeon of Raccoon General Hospital, trained virologist, and recent divorcee, George Hamilton was in Jack’s Bar when the Outbreak really got going. During its course, he also becomes a vital player in the creation of Daylight, a T-Virus cure.

His medical expertise and equipment keeps him and his allies alive, allowing him to get the most of the healing herbs found in the city. His expertise in virology also allows him to turn his skill to harming the monstrosities plaguing the city.

29 Jim Chapman

  • Age: 24 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 5’9
  • Birth Year: 1974

All kinds of people survived the Raccoon City Outbreak. Not every one who lived through the early chaos were strong or brave, some of them were simply lucky. Jim Chapman, a railway employee who was doing a crossword in Jack’s Bar when that first zombie stumbled in, is one such fortunate soul.

Not combat oriented at all, his most distinct ability is to play dead, dodging enemy attacks and avoiding enemy attention. With his low health and susceptibility to infection, he can nonetheless be a strong member of the team, provided his luck holds out.

28 David King

  • Age: ??? (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 6’1
  • Birth Year: Unknown

David King is a handyman who also happens to engage in the age-old pastime: preparing for it to all go wrong. So he’s uniquely ready when the first zombie walks into Jack’s Bar and starts munching face.

He’s a good all-rounder, able to shoot and fight with the best of them, and is especially good with knives. But, ultimately, it’s his skill as a handyman that really made him an asset. He can repair broken equipment and much like Frank West, he can combine mundane objects into zombie-smashing weapons.

27 Yoko Suzuki

  • Age: 24 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 5’4
  • Birth Year: 1978

A former Umbrella employee with a little bit of amnesia, Yoko Suzuki was giving herself an impromptu haircut in the women’s restroom of Jack’s Bar when a zombie crept in through the ventilation.

Though she’s not fast, she’s quite slippery, with skills that allow her to keep all but the toughest enemies from getting a hold on her. Her backpack also gives her a very high carrying capacity. She regains her memories throughout the outbreak and sometime after Raccoon City’s destruction, her testimony would be vital in Umbrella’s downfall.

26 Alyssa Ashcroft

  • Age: 28 (Outbreak), 47(RE7)
  • Height: 5’9
  • Birth Year: 1970

An investigative reporter determined to get to the bottom of Umbrella’s misdeeds, Alyssa Ashcroft was typing out her next story when a zombie stumbled through the front door of Jack’s Bar.

A woman of many talents, she can take care of herself. She’s quick on her feet and a pretty good shot with a pistol. Like Jill Valentine, she’s familiar with a set of lockpicks as well.

She’s one of the few Outbreak survivors guaranteed to make it out of Raccoon City and would go on to write about what transpired. Much later, she would also write about the mysterious disappearances in Dulvey Parish, Louisiana...

25 Cindy Lennox

  • Age: 24 (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2)
  • Height: 5’9
  • Birth Year: 1974

A waitress at Jack’s Bar, Cindy Lennox’s problems were far worse than whether customers were tipping. She was on the job when a zombie stumbled into her workplace and ate her co-worker.

Though she's a waitress by occupation, she’s also a competent medic, the latter of which is far more relevant during the Outbreak. Her Herb Case allows her to store more herbs than the other survivors and keep her friends in tip-top shape. Though she's not particularly athletic, she at least knows to duck out of the way when the undead try to get their hands on her.

24 Barry Burton

  • Age: 38 (RE1), 51 (RE Revelations 2), 53 (RE Revelations 2 Epilogue)
  • Height: 6’1
  • Birth Year: 1960

Barry Burton is one of the last surviving members of STARS and one of the ones involved in the Spencer Mansion incident. He appears in Jill’s campaign and helps her through the mansion’s perils (like becoming a sandwich), only for it to be revealed that he was working for Wesker under blackmail. He’d go on to work with the other surviving members of STARS to form the BSAA.

Much later, in Revelations 2, his first playable role, he travels to Sein island to rescue his daughter. There he would meet Natalia Korda, who he adopts after saving Moira and leaving the island.

23 Moira Burton

Moira Burton raises her hand in Resident Evil: Revelations 2
  • Age: 20 (RE Revelations 2), 22 (RE Revelations 2, Epilogue)
  • Height: 5’5
  • Birth Year: 1991

Moira Burton is the older daughter of Barry Burton, with whom she shares a strained relationship ever since an incident where she accidentally shot her sister with one of Barry’s unsecured firearms. She developed a fear of firearms and a dislike of her father from his event.

She has a chip on her shoulder and a foul mouth, but a good heart. She befriends Claire Redfield and follows her path to work for TerraSave. Unfortunately, this puts her in the path of Alex Wesker, who kidnaps several members of the organization to be infected in a remote island. Moira assists Claire with her trials on the island until they are separated.
