You can resize an object freely, to modify its proportions any way you like, or proportionally, to make it larger or smaller without changing its essential shape. You can also set it to have specific dimensions. You can rotate or flip any object except a table, chart, web video or image gallery.

Resize an object

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, then tap an object to select it, or select multiple objects.

If you can’t see blue dots around the object, the object is locked; you must unlock it before you can resize it.

  3. To choose whether the object resizes freely or proportionally, tap the Format button, tap Arrange, then turn Constrain Proportions off or on.

Note: Groups containing certain objects can only be resized proportionally. These objects include images and movies that have been rotated, shapes that have a green dot when selected and 3D objects.

  4. Tap the page to close the controls, then do one of the following:

    • Resize freely: Drag a blue dot on the top, bottom or sides (not a corner) of the object.

This action is possible only if Constrain Proportions is turned off (see step 2 above).

An object with blue dots on its border for changing the object’s size.
    • Resize proportionally: Drag a corner selection handle diagonally.

    • Resize from the centre: Touch and hold a blue dot, touch and hold the middle of the object, then drag the blue dot.

    • Resize to specific dimensions: Tap the Format button, tap Arrange, tap W or H, then enter new values for Width and Height.

Match the sizes of two objects

You can quickly match the sizes of two objects on a page.

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, tap the object you want to resize, then drag a blue dot to begin resizing.

  3. As you drag, touch and hold another object whose size you want to match.

  4. When the words Match Size appear, lift both your fingers at the same time.

Rotate an object

Note: You can’t rotate a table, chart or image gallery. If you want to rotate a 3D object, see Add 3D objects.

To rotate an object, do one of the following:

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, then do one of the following:

    • Tap the object to select it, place two fingers on it, then turn your hand in the direction you want to rotate the object.

After you start the rotation, you can continue by dragging with a single finger. A guide appears that shows the angle of rotation.

    • Tap to select an object, tap the Format button, tap Arrange, then tap Rotate. Drag the wheel below Rotate, or enter a degree value to specify the angle at which you want to rotate the object.

Flip an object

Note: You can’t flip a table, chart, image gallery or 3D object.

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, then tap the object to select it.

  3. Tap the Format button in the toolbar, tap Arrange, then tap Flip Vertically or Flip Horizontally.
