After spending several weeks in solitary confinement, Archie is taken to The Pit, a place where prisoners are forced to fight each other as entertainment for the warden and guards.

When Archie sees his Serpent ally Joaquin being beaten to a pulp, he decides to accept the role as Mad Dog’s replacement.

Later, the warden asks Archie to compete in an extended fight, but instead of knocking the opposition out with one blow he decides to prolong the fight for several rounds.

Once Archie has taken a few blows, he ends the fight with a knockout punch to remain the warden’s champion.

As a reward for winning, Archie is given all of Mad Dog’s old belongings as well as a bottle of rum from Hiram Lodge’s (Mark Consuelos) label.

Furious to have received a product from his nemesis Hiram, Archie smashes the bottle before trashing his cell.

While destroying his cell he discovers Mad Dog’s copy of The Count of Monte Cristo, with a rock hammer tucked inside.

Upon discovering the tool, Archie rallies his fellow prisoners for a jailbreak, but it is his plan to escape that has divided viewers’ opinions.

“I hate Archie’s storyline on Riverdale, I literally want to fast forward the scenes,” one person moaned.

A second asked: “Why not just alert your lawyer, Archie? She’s literally your mother. You don’t have to escape the fight club prison if you tell a real adult.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “The whole Archie in juvie storyline is lame Riverdale.”

Someone else groaned: “I actually was’t hating the Archie storyline, but leave it to Archie to think up something ridiculous like breaking out of prison.”

Others approved of Archie’s plan, with one writing: “My Archie has to leave that prison or I shoot it from here.”
