ORIGIN Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor best known for his superhero role in the Marvel films. He was born on April 4, 1965 in Manhattan, New York. His father, Robert Downey Sr., is an actor and filmmaker and his mother, Elsie Ford, was an actress. His older sister, Allyson, is also into acting. Downey was raised in Greenwich Village. He moved to California in 1978 shortly after his parents divorced. He attended Santa Monica High School but dropped out before completing his diploma.

CAREER Downey made his acting debut at the age of five. He played the role of a puppy in the 1970 film, Pound, directed by his father. Other early film appearances include Baby It’s You (1983), Tuff Turf (1985), and Weird Science (1985). He was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for 18 episodes from 1985-1986.
