Charles Robert Redford Jr. was born in Santa Monica, California, United States, on August 18, 1936, was an American actor and director. Young Robert Redford began his acting career on the New York stage. He landed his Broadway debut in a play "Tall Story" (1959) in role as Myers, at Belasco Theatre. He got his first big break as Paul in a play "Barefoot in the Park" (1963), at Biltmore Theatre. He made his big screen debut in romantic comedy movie Tall Story (1960) in role as basketball player. He made his television debut in ABC Western series Maverick (1960) in episode "Iron Hand", in role as Jimmy Coleman. Robert breakthrough performance came as Sundance Kid in Western film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). He made his directorial debut with drama movie Ordinary People (1980), for which he won the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Director.
