Wayne's cowboy boots probably gave him an advantage over Hudson's boots as well. You have to be careful with ground level in that film, but the best scene to compare height is probably the end when they drink with Rojas. For what it's worth, Hudson did make the same claim about shrinking from 6'5" to 6'4" in the LA Times around 1981. There have been some people who seem to shrink a bit and then maintain their height for years so it's possible Hudson was one of them, but it's also possible Hudson was 6'4.75" peak and shrunk to 6'4.25" by 1967 or Hudson had been measured earlier in the morning and then later and wasn't aware how much you shrink in a day. So I started watching other movies with Clint Walker. He didn't look anything over 6'5 with Peter Graves in Scream of the Wolf. Interestingly enough, in a photo with James Arness he looks 194cm. There's also a photo with the bodybuilder Steve Reeves (about 6'1) where he also looks 6'4 range. I think the 6'6 listing is merely Hollywood hype.
