Discover Rock Island Arsenal—an active U.S. Army facility and a living testament to American history, innovation, and community partnership. Located on a 946-acre island in the Mississippi River between Davenport, Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline, Illinois, the Arsenal has served as a cornerstone of the Quad Cities since 1862.
Mission and Economic Impact
Rock Island Arsenal is one of the largest and most vital employers in the region, with approximately 6,250 personnel supporting more than 30 organizations. These include First Army, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, the Army Civilian Human Resources Agency, Army Contracting Command – Rock Island, the RIA-Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC), and the Army Corps of Engineers – Rock Island District. The Arsenal also houses the Veterans Administration’s Rock Island National Cemetery, serving as a place of honor and remembrance for those who served our nation.
As the Department of Defense’s only vertically integrated manufacturing operation, RIA-JMTC is the largest government-owned manufacturing facility in the United States. The Arsenal’s reach extends throughout the Midwest, supporting over 54,000 active and reserve military, retirees, civilian employees, and their families within a 150-mile radius. With a $1.2 billion annual impact, the Arsenal is a powerful economic engine for the Quad Cities.
