But how did the actor make so much money?

It is believed most of his fortune comes from his career in cinematography.

Ronald William Howard, 67, was born in Oklahoma.

His mother, Jean Speegle Howard, was an actress, and his dad Rance Howard, was a director, writer and actor.

Howard attended the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.

However, he started in the entertainment industry when he was just five years old.

His first film role was in 1959 in The Journey.

In 1960, Howard was cast as the character Opie Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show, which he played for eight seasons.

Since then, he has appeared in many productions but later decided to produce his own movies making his directorial debut in 1977 with the action film Grand Theft Auto.

His big directorial break was in 1982 with the film Night Shift.

Howard has had a long career as a director producing major films such as Splash, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code, Rush or Angels & Demons.

The director married writer Cheryl Alley in 1975.

The couple have four children together.

Their daughter Bryce Dallas Howard, is also a famous actress and director.

Ron and Cheryl bought a £4.1million apartment in New York City a few years ago. The couple listed the apartment for sale for £9.2million.

They also own another New York apartment which they purchased for £527,000.

Howard has another property in Greenwich, Connecticut which is worth £20million.

In 2006 the couple bought an apartment in Santa Monica, California for £2million.
