- Rosa ‘Cecile Brunner’ (Climbing Rose)
Rose 'Cecile Brunner', Rose 'Madame Cécile Brunner, Rose 'Mlle Cécile Brunner', Rose 'Mignon', Rose 'True Friend', Climbing Roses, Polyantha Roses
An old favorite since 1894, award-winning Rosa ‘Cécile Brünner’ is a vigorous, almost thornless large climber with generous sprays of pleasantly fragrant, fully double, pale pink flowers, 1.5 in. across (4 cm). Resembling miniature Hybrid Tea roses, the perfectly formed blooms open from pointed buds and count up to 30 petals. Extremely free-flowering, this climbing rose experiences a long, overwhelming flush of blooms in late spring or early summer. Its smooth, reddish stems are clothed with pointed, dark green leaves, often with a reddish tint. Perfect for training over arches, fences or trellises in sun or partial shade. Reliable, this heirloom rose is also ideal for a north-facing site. Good disease resistance.
- Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
- Grows up to 10-20 ft. tall (3-6 m) and 3-6 ft. wide (1-2 m).
- Best grown in full sun to partial shade, in humus-rich, fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Poor soil and shade tolerant. For best flowering, apply a balanced fertilizer and mulch in late winter or early spring and a balanced fertilizer again in early summer.
- Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer
- Discovered by Franz P. Hosp in 1894.
