Although it doesn't look like much, Route 16 is definitely the most interesting part of the Route 16-18 section. Sure, there's not a whole lot of action going on (only six trainers), but you will encounter a sleeping Snorlax and finally get the cherished HM02 (Fly) that lets you "warp" between the different towns and routes. First, though, knock off the biker rally:

  • Cue Ball Camron
    • Mankey (29)
    • Machop (29)
  • Biker Ruben
    • Weezing (28)

Get the Amulet Coin

Go inside the guard house and chat with the Prof. Aide upstairs. If you have caught 40 or more Pokémon, he will reward you with the Amulet Coin. If you have enough, say yes... otherwise, get capturing!

Get HM 02 (Fly)

Go through the guard house, wake up the Snorlax with the Poké Flute and capture it (if you haven't done that yet) and look for the "Cut"-able bush on this passage. Get rid of it using the Cut technique and go through the top part of the guard house. Before you can, you'll face a pair:

  • Young Couple Lea & Jed
    • Rapidash (29)
    • Ninetales (29)

You will find a small hut -- the secret retreat of a reclusive Pokémon trainer. As a reward for keeping her place secret, she gives you HM 02 - Fly. Apart from being a great two-turn Flying attack during battles (only Swift can hit your Pokémon while it's in the air), it also lets you fly from town to town outside of battle. That's it for Route 16 -- it's now time for yet another little side quest.
