Before Wealth & Fame

Ryan Kaji’s father, Shion, is a former structural engineer from Japan, and his mother, Loann, is a refugee from Japan. Ryan’s parents initially met at Texas Tech University, and his mother previously spent time in jail for shoplifting before becoming a high school teacher.

In March 2015, the YouTube channel ‘Ryan’s Toys Review’ was created. The very first videos published on the channel would revolve around ‘Ryan’s Pick of the Week’, where Ryan and his mother would go to a toy store, choose a toy, then head home to build it and play with it.

In 2016, the Kaji family created their second YouTube channel, ‘Kaji Family’. This channel showcased vlog-style videos of the family and their daily lives, and the audience began to see more appearances of all family members, including Ryan’s sisters.

Whilst the Kaji Family channel would still show a toy element, it mostly focuses on day trips, larger activities, and amusements. To date, the channel has roughly 9 million subscribers.

Sunlight Entertainment
