History[]

Ryan created his channel on October 26, 2013. He mainly uploaded videos regarding track and field training tips, compilation videos, vlogs and more. His most popular video at the time, "MY FASTEST MILE TIME EVER - Schrader Mile 2017", amassed over 250,000 views.

In April of 2018, he posted the video "Copying Emma Chamberlain's Instagram for a Week", which got over 1,500,000 views and gained him lots of subscribers.

Ryan posted one of his most viewed videos to date in June of 2018. The video, "LOREN GRAY is LYING TO YOU *proof*", has amassed over 9.2 million views.

Business[]

Aside from being a YouTuber, Ryan is also an entrepreneur, having founded three businesses. He founded Neptune Bottle, an eco-friendly jug business, as well as Hydra, a clothing line, He recently co-joined a candy company called Joyride Candy, making a promotion trailer with the help of fellow YouTubers Sticks, who previously made a movie trailer themed around his life. This trailer featured cameo appearances of YouTubers Haley Pham (Ryan's wife), Airrack, Colin and Samir, Mark Rober, and MrBeast. The latter two were unable to make it to the set, and so filmed their cameos elsewhere.[3]

Series[]

Surviving on $0.01 for 30 Days series[]

On June 1, 2022, he started a series in which the rules were: he would start with a penny and a backpack and have 30 days to travel all the way to MrBeast in Greenville, North Carolina, starting from Los Angeles, California. He said he wanted to do this because of the US Mint ceasing the production of the penny in 2023, and that MrBeast doesn't have one. It was also a fundraiser collaboration with Feeding America to raise money to end hunger in America, where $1 donated would provide at least 10 meals. So far, the fundraiser has raised over 1.4 million dollars, which is equivalent to at least 14 million meals.

On June 30, 2022, he uploaded the final video in which he completed his journey. A few results of the entire journey include:

  • Traveling from Los Angeles to North Carolina in a span of 30 days for over 3,000 miles.
  • The total length of the entire series is 7.01 hours.
  • $509.21 was spent on transportation alone.
  • He ate from McDonald's every single day, hence making him have at least 30 meals from McDonald's (and at least 30 iced coffees?)
  • The goal of $100,000 was greatly exceeded, and nearly $1.4M was raised with 14K donations (the average donation being $94.95), so at least 14M meals[4]
  • Over 2 million cents were raised from new subscribers for at least 200,000 meals.
  • MrBeast donated $102,000 to feeding families.

Surviving on $0.01 for 1 week series[]

On June 22, 2023, Ryan uploaded a picture that contained the text "July 1 - Penny Series - Far From Home", with some flag icons censored except for the last flag - the United States flag, on his social media accounts.[5] This meant he had begun a new chapter of the Penny Series. A few days later, on June 28, 2023, Ryan provided a status update on the Far From Home chapter.[6] In this video, he informed his audience that he is in an undisclosed country, how the challenge will work, how many days the challenge will last, what the goal or purpose of the series is, and more.

After the series ended he uploaded a compilation video of the series. On the pinned comment of the video, Ryan announced that it would be the last penny series ever.[7]

I Tested One-Star...[]

Ryan is also known for his series where he examines ridiculous one-star Yelp reviews. The only objective of the challenge is to write a five-star review without lying. During his travels, Ryan also completes a life goal, such as getting over his phobia of roller coasters by riding the Iron Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (the same coaster that caused the phobia when Ryan was very young).[8]

Most of the reviews seemed to be from people having a bad day, and were easily busted by Ryan. In a sketchy Chinese buffet, Ryan accidentally said goodbye to a hostess that was FaceTiming her family, ordered an orange crush in spite of his instincts, and realized he was seated in a booth across from Oliver Tree.[9] Ryan also visited another Asian buffet in Montana, whose owner has a bad rep for unfairly banning people from his restaurant (usually for throwing away food or leaving small tips). The owner turned out to be extremely wholesome, even declining a $20 tip from Ryan out of gratitude for a prior $1 tip.[9] When Ryan went to a casino in middle-of-nowhere South Dakota, he won the jackpot; this was after another reviewer named Matt accused the casino of stealing his money.[10] Ryan traveled to an off-brand St. Regis hotel in Detroit, and was given the same room in a Kansas City hotel that reviewers said was haunted.[11] Ryan even went to the lowest-rated McDonald's (also in Detroit) as part of this series.[12] The only time Ryan has left a four-star review was when the Kalahari Indoor Water Park in Texas lost his Apple Watch; this was changed to a five-star review when they found the watch and shipped it to his house for free.[13]

50 States in 50 Days[]

In June 2025, Ryan Trahan embarked on an ambitious journey to stay in 50 unique Airbnbs across 50 different states—one per day.[14] Each Airbnb had its own distinct charm, ranging from acorn-shaped houses to celebrity-owned properties. To keep the daily videos rolling out on time, two dedicated editors worked behind the scenes while Ryan continued his travels. He was joined on this adventure by his wife, Haley Pham.

While they were on the adventure, Ryan and Haley were determining which of the 50 Airbnbs was the best house in America. In the end, Oklahoma's Treetopia Treehouse was awarded the first-place trophy. Raul from the New Mexico episode ("Yeah, and KABOOM! It is what it is!") won the honorary award for best host.[15] Other YouTubers, most notably Doctor Mike[16] and Nick DiGiovanni[17], made special appearances in the series as well.

On July 29, 2025, Ryan and Haley had succeeded in going to all 50 states, with a St. Jude fundraiser associated with the series having raised over $11,300,000 thanks to over 42,000 donators.

Wheel of Doom penalties[]

As part of this series, the "Wheel of Doom" was activated with every donation that exceeded $50,000 (with $100,000 donors getting to choose the Doom penalty).[18]

Original Wheel of Doom (Episodes 1-30)[]

  • Running on Fumes - You must drive until the tank says "empty".
  • Local Legend - You must share a meal with a local from the nearest town before moving on.
  • Route Roulette - You must receive directions from a stranger and follow them word for word.
  • Reverse Card - You must turn around the way you came and find another way to your next Airbnb.
  • Detour - You are not allowed to drive on highways to the next Airbnb.
  • Silent Treatment - No talking between Ryan and Haley for the entire road trip.
  • Airplane Mode - You must get to your next Airbnb without your phones.
  • Locked Out - You are not allowed to sleep in your next Airbnb.
  • Red Light, Green Light - Roll a dice; whatever it lands on, you must wait that many hours before hitting the road.
  • The Split - One of you must split up and find another way to your next Airbnb.
  • Golden Ticket - 24-hour immunity from any Wheel of Doom spin. This can be activated any time.[19]

Wheel of Doom 2.0 (Episodes 30-48)[]

As part of the $3,000,000 celebration, new penalties were added to the Wheel of Doom:[20]

  • Jammy Time - Ryan and Haley must wear pajamas all day.
  • Swap Lives - Ryan and Haley swap routines for the day.
  • Decaf - Ryan and Haley cannot drink coffee for an entire day.
  • Booster Club - Ryan and Haley must find 5 people to donate to St. Jude before continuing the trip.
  • Capitalize - Ryan and Haley must visit the state capital regardless of their Airbnb's location.
  • Anticlimactic - Ryan and Haley must go to the lowest-rated state attraction before their Airbnb.
  • Track Star - Ryan and Haley must run a mile for every hour of today's drive before continuing the trip.

These penalties were chosen by popular vote. They replaced every penalty except for Detour, Reverse Card, The Split, and Golden Ticket.

Wheel of Doom 3.0 (Episodes 48-50)[]

This was a 3D-printed replica of the Wheel of Doom used for the flights to the final three states. This was done out of worry that the TSA would confiscate the Wheel of Doom, mostly because of the wiring inside.[21]

Personal life[]

Ryan Michael Trahan was born on October 7, 1998 in the town of Sugar Land, Texas, U.S.[22] He grew up in the small town of Eagle Lake, Texas. He went to Rice High School in Altair, Texas, and was valedictorian.[23] Ryan's Twitter account shows his closeness with his family, particularly with his dad, and his brother Matthew.

Ryan grew up without a grandfather. He made a pact in 2021 with Dr. Phil's agent Alicia through e-mail stating that, if his channel passed Phil's channel in subscribers, he would legally have him be his adoptive grandfather. His channel successfully passed that goal in early 2022, and has traveled to Paramount Studios in Los Angeles to interview him, though he ultimately ended up not asking the question face-to-face.[24]

Ryan is currently married to fellow YouTuber Haley Pham. They got engaged in May 2020. They often post Instagram pictures together, and she has been featured in many videos on his channel. They have a dog named Spock and are currently residing in Austin, Texas.
