I liked that Ryder wasn’t so common, but also not so abnormal that it would be hard to spell, say, or be a source strife for my little boy. It take send to fit him VS other names we were thinking about.

Ryder is starting to be a more common name now but I named my son Ryder in 2014 and there was only one other Ryder i knew of. I have been in love with the name since I was a little girl and I love it even more now that I have a son who has the name.

We went through a ton of names, Ryder was the first one both dad and I liked. We tried really hard with our other two children to make sure the names didn’t clash with the last name Hardman. We picked Ryder Scott Hardman. Middle name after dad’s grandpa. Someone pointed out that you don’t say it with the middle name so we essentially named the kid Ryder Hardman. Get it. Ride-her Hard-man? Yeah. We laughed really hard lol

I had 3 miscarriages before we were blessed with Ryder. We were having a difficult time choosing a name. One day, it came to me. We “rode out the wave” of infertility, and now we have a Ryder?

We have a scheme for picking names in our family so this child needed to start with an R. We have also named our sons with a military type leaning. Ryder means mounted warrior, with the connotation of “knight in shining armor.” We hope to stress honor and chivalry in his upbringing, training him to be courteous with others and willing to step forward in defense of the weak or oppressed.
