Personal Life[]

According to his Reddit AMA, his first name is actually Sam, but his last name, O'Nella, is "up to interpretation". However, he contradicts this in the same AMA by stating it was an old Xbox Gamertag, with the name being a play on the bacteria, salmonella. He studies chemical engineering.[2]

History[]

Miller created his account on June 13, 2016. That same day, Miller uploaded his first video The Fire — Miscellaneous Mondays. In this video, Miller told the story of a giant fire he saw as a kid.

Originally, Miller meant have a daily schedule of videos. In this short period of daily videos, Miller uploaded informational videos, stories, and rants. However, after he uploaded his video about posions found in common produce, he ditched the format. His first video after ditching the daily format was "The Forms of Carbon As Alcoholic Drinks".

On June 28, 2016, Miller uploaded a video on "Dog Breed Deformities". This is the fourth most popular video he has created (the most popular is "Historical Misconceptions for You to Bring Up during Family Dinner").

His last video before taking a hiatus, "World War II's Unluckiest Ship, the William D. Porter", was uploaded on January 29, 2020. He disappeared from the Internet for the following year, until he made this Reddit thread stating an intent to return to YouTube, and asking for video ideas.

On October 3rd of 2022, Sam returned with a tweet simply stating "k im back". He then uploaded a video titled "Where Animals' Scientific Names Come From". His next video, "Zhang Zongchang, the Dogmeat General", would be uploaded 10 months later. His next video, "Presidential Pets: A Brief History", would be uploaded 4 months after. Afterwards he would release "Banned and Controversial Foods" and 9 months after that, he would publish his longest-running video yet "Pliny Explains it All: The Historia Naturalis Abridged (Books I-II)".

Content[]

Miller's videos all follow a similar pattern: Miller plays the channel introduction, introduces a topic, after a usual "Hey kids" (he would later change this introduction due to COPPA), he then explains the topic in a comedic way, gives a comedic conclusion, and then plays the channel introduction again.

All of Miller's videos are drawn as opposed to being filmed in real life. The drawings consist of stick figures and crudely drawn props.

Miller also has a second channel known as Sam O'Nella Vlog which he used to upload song mashups as well as other miscellaneous content.

Surrealism video[]

As an April Fools' joke, Miller made a video about surrealism. In which there was buzzing noises in the background, unusual filters, and random changes in sentences. Viewers said that it made them uncomfortable and many described it as watching a creepypasta.

He mentioned in The Official Podcast that he wanted to make a video that was completely random as an April Fools joke. But his friend told him to try to make a YouTube Poop in the style of a Sam O'Nella video. The now unlisted video can be found here.

Controversy[]

Using Racial Slurs[]

On September 4th, 2016, Sam uploaded the now-deleted video titled "Fun Facts about Sigmund Freud", in the video sam said the n-word while voicing Sigmund Freud. After recieving backlash with many calling his remark racist, Sam deleted the video.[3]

• He deleted a video about the Crimean War and has 6 unlisted videos. One is about surrealism, and the others are livestreamed Q&As, one of which is only 4 seconds long. The Crimean War video was deleted for alleged bias. 5 of the livestreams were on Sam O'Nella Academy, 1 was on Sam O'Nella Vlog channel.
