For anyone suffering the install issues, on an M1 mac (mine is M1 Max), I have a solution that may help others to fix.
Preamble:
Problem on install was software not installing properly and so the fingerprint element didn't work. Also the disappearing Security & Privacy setting, which in previous OS's allowed a user to add non Mac software, would not appear when I attempted install.
I came across a post 'Samsung Portable SSD software doesn't work properly on MacBook Air M1' and tried the solution that a user posted (useful for removing the Samsung software before clean installing).
My Findings:
It was all to do with the security that I had setup. File vault and the security kernel was set at the highest setting.
My solution:
I cleaned the existing Samsung ssd software off my system. I then visited the website below and scrolled down to the Samsung Portable SSD Software for T7 | T7 Touch (3) options and downloaded the mac software.
https://semiconductor.samsung.com/emea/consumer-storage/support/tools/
I then installed, keeping the System Pref panel with Security & Privacy pane right next to the install. It then showed an option that I had to 'enable system extensions' by 'modifying your security settings in the Recovery environment' --> to do this 'shut down your system, then press and hold Touch ID/power button to launch Startup Security Utility. In the Utility enable kernel extensions from the security policy button'
(Before I could boot as instructed the Samsung software wanted to restart my system to complete what it was doing. I complied... on reboot the information to shutdown and hold power for recovery still popped up.)
This took a few passes of filling my password into the recovery mode and rebooting back in, til I saw a prompt to reboot holding the Touch ID/Power button, which then showed a system preferences icon saying 'options'. I was then able to change my security settings to allow third party.
So far so good. I have yet to reinstate the full security... I will in due course to test everything is still functioning... but at the moment this seems to have worked.
I hope this helps others, who have the same issues.

- Macbook Air M1 2020 Big Surr 11.1 Hi Apple, I just got my new macbook air M1 2020 with Big Surr 11.1 installed. When exploring I found some issues: I cant setup my Touch ID, like it stucked on the step to capture edge of fingerprint. This problem also happen to my friend's mac too with the same spec. When I try to update OS to Big Surr 11.4, Cant continue to restart bcs it said I put the wrong password. Meanwhile that's the correct one. Screen Savers keep comin like disturbing my work. It suddenly poppin, although I have set it to Never. By click or touch anything didnt work to back to main screen. Whats happening here? There so much problem I got with this new laptop? Do you think this is OS bugs or HW/unit issues? 425 2
- Bootable installer won't recognize on 2020 M1 Macbook air I updated my mac to the latest version of Monterey and decided that I wanted to revert back to Big Sur after some compatibility issues. I followed guide videos and websites and I was able to create a bootable installer of Big Sur on a USB stick. The issue came up when I tried booting the mac from the drive. Even though the USB is recognized and shows up as a drive, the drive wouldn't show up on the recovery screen as a bootable installer. After further research, I learned that macs with the T2 security chip needed extra permission to boot from external media. Since my MacBook's model is listed as a T2 device, I went to look for the setting to change it but it didn't show up as an option in Startup Security Utility. I repeated the process with another USB stick and once again failed. I wanted to know if I'm doing something wrong making or using the bootable installer or if it's just a USB compatibility issue. Steps I took to make the installer: Install Big Sur in applications Disk Utility to delete and reformat USB to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Run the command provided by apple to format the USB into a bootable installer After the process finishes I entered recovery mode by continuously holding down the power button Installer doesn't show up as an option (only macintosh and option are availible) I tried this for a while with multiple attempt an dfailed every time. I was about to give up but I wanted to make one last attempt so any help would be appreciated (I also tried making a Monterey installer to test compatibility and it also didn't work). 4498 2
- T2 continual firmware problems Been having continual problems with firmware since I bought T2 machine. Have reformatted and upgraded several times. Reformatted, revived, and upgraded a few months ago (to Ventura). Problems were resolved for about four days and then returned. Upgraded again a few days ago (to Sonoma). Problems were resolved for about 24 hours and then returned. This tells me it is a software issue. Problems vary in firmware UI, but there are consistencies in some other problematic behaviors also. The consistencies include: remote rebooting, especially when I leave home (not based on time away from machine). Concomitantly, I get: flickering Touchbar; dialog box upon soft reboot saying my computer shut down with a problem, would I like to reopen apps, and when I say no it does so anyway; variable behaviors with resetting SMC. Recently discovered Safe mode and Diagnostics do not work at all. Startup Security Utility is newly missing from firmware UI, so I cannot disable firmware passcode to reset PRAM or go into verbose mode. Some most recent console logs not viewable. When attempting first aid in recovery mode for firmware partition, got a dialog box saying it could take several hours and would be better if I was in recovery mode (again, I was *in recovery mode). Can no longer access terminal through recovery mode. Using terminal via OS utility, basic commands not working, like ls. I tried becoming a developer because I am tempted to delete property list files and KEXT files at firmware level, but do not know enough to know what will be safe vs. what could brick my machine. However, I am extremely impoverished and cannot afford the $99. I don't have a car and am disabled so bricking machine is costly and difficult. Please help. 1129 4
