This recipe for Santa’s cookies makes just a small batch of cookies, just the perfect amount for Santa. The recipe makes about 8 or 9 cookies, so you’re not left with a bunch of extra cookies in addition to all the Christmas goodies we’ve been eating all month, and the treats we might find in our stockings from Santa.

A stack of Christmas chocolate chip cookies.

These cookies for Santa are soft, and chewy, and loaded with lots of chocolate! They’re so delicious, and the perfect treat to help Santa get through his night of all the busy present wrapping (or delivering 😉 ) Just make sure to leave him a glass of milk to go with the cookies.

The cookies are also so easy to make, you only need one bowl, and one spoon, and just a few ingredients to make these. Most of which you probably have on hand.

A pile of Santa's cookies on a white plate. The cookies have white chocolate chips, regular chocolate chips, green & red m&ms, and sprinkles.

You will need:

  • butter – gives the cookies a good flavor, and helps hold everything together
  • brown sugar – to make the cookies sweet and chewy
  • granulated sugar – to add sweetness to the cookie dough
  • one egg yolk – (use the egg whites to add to an omelette or save to add to others to make meringue, or pavlova)
  • vanilla extract – to add flavor to the cookies
  • all purpose flour – to add bulk, and the main ingredient of cookies
  • baking soda – to give the cookies lift
  • salt – to balance out the sweetness, and add a little flavor
  • Christmas m&ms – to add fun color to the cookies
  • chocolate chips or white chocolate chips – because chocolate makes everything better
  • Christmas sprinkles – to make Santa’s cookies even more festive

How do you make Santa’s Cookies?

  1. These cookies are so easy to make! Start by creaming together your soft butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Mix them till it starts to get nice and fluffy, a couple minutes.
  2. Then add in the egg yolk and vanilla extract and mix it all till it’s just combined.
  3. Add in your flour, baking soda, and salt and stir it all together till you have a nice soft cookie dough.
  4. Mix in the m&ms, chocolate chips, and half of the sprinkles.
  5. Roll the cookie dough into 8 or 9 evenly sized balls. Place the cookie dough balls evenly on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Then bake them until the edges start to brown, and the top just looks set (no longer gooey). Remove the cookies from the oven and press a few extra chocolate chips and m&ms into the top of each cookie to make them extra pretty. Sprinkle the remaining sprinkles over the top of them too. Let them cool for a few minutes on the baking pan, then move them to a cooling rack to cool completely. Serve them up on a cute holiday plate and set them out for Santa to enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions:

How to store leftover cookies?

This cookie recipe is just a small batch recipe so you won’t be left with too many extra, but if you want to enjoy a few yourself after saving a plate for Santa 😉 then you can store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 or 5 days.

How to freeze cookie dough?

You can also bake up half the dough and freeze the remaining dough. I like to roll the dough into balls, and flash freeze them on a cookie sheet, then transfer the balls to a freezer safe bag and keep them in the freezer. They will stay good in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Then you can bake the Santa Claus Cookies on a prepared baking sheet whenever you’re ready for them. Just add a couple extra minutes to the baking time and you can bake them from frozen.
