You can save podcast episodes to your library so you can find them more easily later. You can also download episodes to store them on your Mac and listen to them even when you don’t have an internet connection.

Open Podcasts for me

Save an episode to your library

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Search or browse for a podcast or click a category in the sidebar.

  3. Hold the pointer over an episode, click the More button, then choose Save.

Saved episodes are automatically downloaded by default. To change this setting, choose Podcasts > Settings, click General, then deselect Download When Saving.

Remove a saved episode

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Click Saved in the sidebar, click the More button, then choose Unsave.

If you downloaded a saved episode, choosing Unsave doesn’t remove it from the Downloaded tab. See Remove downloaded episodes, below.

Download an episode

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Search or browse for a podcast or click a category in the sidebar.

  3. Select an episode, click the More button, then choose Download.

Remove downloaded episodes

Episodes you remove from the Downloaded tab are deleted from your Mac, freeing up storage space.

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Click Downloaded in the sidebar, then do one of the following:

    • Remove a downloaded episode: Select a show, click the More button next to the episode you want to remove, then click Remove Download.

    • Remove all downloaded episodes for a show: Select the show that contains the episodes you want to remove, click the More button at the top right, then click Remove Downloads. Click Remove Downloads to confirm.

    • Remove all downloaded episodes: Click the More button at the top right, click Remove All Downloads, then click Remove Downloads to confirm.

    • Hide played episodes: Click the More button at the top right, then choose Hide Played Episodes.

You can also choose whether to automatically remove downloaded episodes after listening to them, and how long to keep downloaded episodes. See Change settings.

Turn automatic downloads off or on for all the shows you follow

You can choose to automatically download new episodes for shows you follow, so they’re ready for you whenever you have time to listen.

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Choose Podcasts > Settings, then click General.

  3. Click the Automatically Download pop-up menu, then turn off automatic downloads or choose how many downloaded episodes to keep.

Turn automatic downloads off or on for a specific show

  1. Go to the Podcasts app on your Mac.

  2. Click Shows in the sidebar, then select a show.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Turn off automatic downloads: Click the Check button, then choose Turn Off Automatic Downloads.

    • Turn on automatic downloads: Click the Download button, then choose Turn On Automatic Downloads.
