Scream 6 Release Date, Cast And Everything You Need To Know

Scream 6 – officially titled Scream VI – will be slicing into cinemas next month, and we can't wait to be reunited with Ghostface.
Following the teaser being released in December 2022, Paramount treated us to the full trailer for the horror sequel in January 2023. Not only did it reveal the first look at Kirby's return, it also had us worried for Gale's fate...
The follow-up to 2022's "requel" Scream moves events to New York City and brings back new favourites such as Jenna Ortega's Tara. However, we will be missing two of the OGs of the series, with only Courteney Cox returning.
For more on that and what to expect from Ghostface's comeback, here's everything you need to know about Scream VI.

Scream 6 release date: When is Scream VI out in cinemas?
Scream VI was originally set for release on March 31, 2023, but will now arrive in cinemas at the earlier date of March 10, 2023.
Filming took place from June-August 2022 and since we've had the trailer now, we're pretty confident/hopeful that the movie will be released as planned in March 2023.

Scream 6 trailer: Watch the Scream VI trailer here!
As mentioned above, the first trailer for Scream VI was released on December 14, 2022, but it was very much a teaser.
It's a 60-second trailer that shows the four survivors from the recent movie on a subway in New York City, only for their journey to be interrupted by Ghostface, or maybe we should say Ghostfaces.
Check it out below:
The full trailer arrived on January 18, 2023, which showcased the entire cast of returning and new names set to battle Ghostface. We're still no closer to finding out which one of them (or more) is Ghostface this time around though.
We also got our first look at Hayden Panettiere's return as fan favourite Kirby Reed, a perilous situation for Gale Weathers and the promise of a Ghostface we've never seen before.

Scream 6 cast: Who's coming back for Scream VI?
We've got to start with the big news: Neve Campbell is not returning as Sidney Prescott.
She explained that the decision came "truly" down to "negotiation" issues. "I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years," she noted.
"And as a woman in this business, I think it's really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued. I honestly don't believe that if I were a man and had done five instalments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.
"And in my soul, I just couldn't do that. I couldn't walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that."

The new movie will, however, bring back Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and leads of the fifth movie Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively.
Also returning from the previous movie are Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding as Randy's niece and nephew Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin. Roger Jackson will, of course, be back as the voice of Ghostface.
There's also some news that might soften the blow of losing Sidney as Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere is reprising her role as Kirby Reed in the new movie.

The new Scream movie will have the same creative team returning behind the scenes: directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
New to Scream VI are Spider-Man star Tony Revolori and former Home and Away star Samara Weaving, along with Henry Czerny, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato and Devyn Nekoda.
We might have seen them in action in the trailers, but we're no clearer on who they're actually playing.
The fifth movie also had a surprise cameo role for Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis, who was revealed to be the father of Sam. He is very much dead though, only appearing in her hallucinations, but that doesn't rule out similar appearances in the new movie.
Other actors from 2020's Scream not returning for Scream VI, though for plot-related reasons, include David Arquette's Dewey Riley who was brutally murdered by Ghostface in the fifth movie.

We could see Heather Matarazzo back as Martha Meeks after a brief cameo in 2020's Scream, which also had voice cameos from Drew Barrymore, Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy.
But not as their characters Casey, Stu and Randy who are surely all dead in the Scream universe... right?
Scream 6 plot: What could Scream VI be about?
Scream VI will see Sam and Tara Carpenter attempt to leave Ghostface behind by moving to New York City, along with twins Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't go to plan when they're targeted by a Ghostface super fan.
That's about all we really know about the new movie, although Barrera has teased to Collider that the new movie is "potentially a hundred times gorier".
"There was a saying on set because Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] were always asking for more blood and more sweat," she explained.

And although Sidney isn't back, Ortega has been promising fans that there are "references" to Sidney in the sixth movie.
The previous movie appeared to position Barrera and Ortega's characters Sam and Tara as the new central characters of the franchise, especially with Sam's connection to the original movie as the daughter of Billy Loomis.
This would naturally make her a target in the same way that Sidney was for the original trilogy. Fortunately, Scream avoided the obvious twist to make Sam a killer like her father, and we'd hope that any future movie would keep this approach.
"Our approach was that she has now accepted that Billy is a part of her. And while he's never going to not be a part of her, she has to now carry that forward," explained co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin to Fandom.
"We had a cut of the movie where she was still medicating herself at the end and we all decided it was better to not have her do that and make it actually feel like she's not just back where she started medicating away her past and that she's actually able now to accept Billy as a part of who she is."
About the only thing we can guarantee at the moment plot-wise is that any future movie would skewer current horror and movie trends. Scream took on toxic fandom and "requels", so we'll have to wait and see what's the target this time around.
Scream VI will be out in cinemas on March 10.
