Nickname Dragons – Seattle Dragons fans, rejoice! The XFL has officially announced the team name for Seattle’s new professional football franchise: Seattle Dragons. But what do we know about the origin of this powerful and symbolic moniker? Let’s take a look at how it all came to be.

Seattle Dragons Origin

The process began with a survey of residents in which they were asked to submit their ideas for potential names that would best represent the city and its people. After collecting thousands of submissions, including “Seahawks," "Rainmakers," “Emerald City Warriors," and more, five finalists emerged from this pool: Orcas, Rainiers, and Sockeyes (all paying homage to various aspects of Pacific Northwest culture), as well as Renegades and Dragons (both offering an exciting alternative).

Ultimately, it was clear that one option resonated with locals far more than any other – dragons! Representing strength & power, passion & loyalty - qualities deeply ingrained in both sports teams across America but especially those playing under Seattle's banner - these mythical creatures seemed like an obvious choice when considering who should lead us onto victory each Sunday come to fall 2020.

Beyond being incredibly fitting for our region, however, there is another reason why dragons have been chosen; they are often seen as symbols of transformation & change – something very relevant given our current state both on-field and off-. With such strong ties between dragon lore & modern-day symbolism then, plus its ability to unite us all behind one cause here in Washington State, only time will tell if this nickname proves worthy enough by season end...but until then, let's get ready to roar!

Seattle Dragons History

The Seattle Dragons team is one of the most exciting franchises in the Seattle Dragons XFL history. Founded in 2019 by Vince McMahon during the XFL relaunch, the team quickly captured the attention of Seattle football fans. Known for their fiery spirit and loyal fan base, the Dragons became a symbol of pride for the city.

In their debut XFL season, the Seattle Dragons team delivered a memorable performance. They finished with a 5–3 record, ranking second in their division just behind the undefeated Houston Roughnecks, who went 8–0. This strong season secured their place in the playoffs, where they faced the DC Defenders. Despite a tough 31–19 loss, the Seattle Dragons XFL fans celebrated the team’s remarkable effort and determination in their first-ever season.

Following their promising start, the Seattle Dragons team aimed to build on their early success. Ahead of the 2020–21 season, they made significant roster and coaching changes, including hiring former Washington State University coach Jim Zorn and signing quarterback Brandon Silvers from the Memphis Express. These moves were expected to strengthen the Seattle Dragons XFL lineup and push them closer to a championship run.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the XFL 2021 season before a single game could be played. Fans were left wondering what the Seattle Dragons team might have achieved if the season had gone on. Despite this setback, the team’s potential and fan support continued to grow, keeping hope alive for future XFL action in Seattle.
