5 OSHA REQUIREMENTS FOR LOCKOUT PADLOCKS AND DEVICES
Master Lock’s variety of safety lockout padlock options offer choices and allow for compliance with OSHA guidelines. OSHA standard 1910.147 (c)(5) requires padlocks to meet specific criteria to be used for lockout. For more information on the requirements, please visit: osha.gov.
- 01 Durable - Locks must stand up to the environment and elements to which they're exposed without failing.
- 02 Substantial - Padlocks should resist removal without use of correct key or excessive force.
- 03 Standardization - Padlocks must be standardized by one of the following within your facility: color, shape, or size.
- 04 Identifiable - Padlocks should visually indicate the employee that applied them – with name, photo, or other identification.
- 05 Exclusive for Safety - Lockout padlocks should be used only for controlling hazardous energy – no other purpose.
