Wireless Direct allows you to connect the printer to your computer or mobile device directly without a Wi-Fi access point/router; the printer serves as a Wi-Fi access point. You cannot connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi while using Wireless Direct. To use the Internet, use a wired connection (when a computer is connected), or connect using Infrastructure Mode. 1. Confirm the Wireless Direct settings of the printer. When you connect to a mobile device, use a Windows PC or Mac to confirm the settings.

Windows

a. Download and install the Printer Driver and Printer Setting Tool from https://support.brother.com.

b. Once you have the Printer Driver and Printer Setting Tool installed, connect the USB cable from your computer to the printer.

c. Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer and select your printer.

d. Click the Communication Settings button. Confirm that Wireless Direct is selected for Selected Interface in the General tab. Click Apply to save any changes.

Macintosh

a. Download and install the Printer Driver and Printer Setting Tool from https://support.brother.com.

b. Once you have the Printer Driver and Printer Setting Tool installed, connect the USB cable from your computer to the printer.

c. Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer and select your printer.

d. Confirm that WirelessDirect is set to On in the Wireless LAN tab. Click Apply to save any changes.

Now that you have verified the Wi-Fi Direct settings are correct, you’ll need to turn on wireless for the printer: a Press and hold the wi fi icon(Wi-Fi) button on your printer for one second to turn the Wi-Fi function on. The wi fi icon (Wi-Fi) indicator starts flashing in blue once every three seconds. - If you press the Wi-Fi button too long, you may enable WPS Mode causing Wi-Fi Direct to fail. b. Use your computer or mobile device to select the SSID of your printer DIRECT-*****_PJ-773. c. Enter your printer’s WiFi Direct Password. The password will be 773 followed by the last 5 digits of the printer’s serial number. (e.g. 77312345) d. When the connection is established, the (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in blue. 4. For computer printing, you may need to delete the current printer and add your Wi-Fi Direct network printer. For mobile printing, download a compatible application for your device.
