City police are warning the public about a convicted sexual offender who is being released into the community and will live in Edmonton.
The 32-year-old man is believed to be at risk of committing another sexual offence, said a police news release Monday.
In March 2016, Alexandre Passechnikov pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual assault, choking to overcome resistance and breach of probation conditions after admitting he tried to rape a 64-year-old woman in a vehicle lot on Jasper Avenue.
Passechnikov has a history of assaulting women in locations that have included semi-private areas, such as apartment buildings, or in busy streets, the release said.
The victims were of various ages, were walking alone and were strangers to him, the release said.
The assaults didn't happen at a particular time of day or in a particular location.
"It is believed that Passechnikov has attempted to have unprotected sexual contact with females even though it is believed that he has an infectious, potentially life-threatening, medical condition that can be transmitted through bodily fluids," the release said.
Court heard in 2016 that Passechnikov was HIV-positive.
He is described as white, six-foot-one, 166 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
Passechnikov will be monitored by the behavioural assessment unit of the Edmonton Police Service.
He has a series of court-ordered conditions that include a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., abstaining from the possession or consumption of alcohol and drugs and requires approval from his supervisor to leave the city. He is also not allowed in a place that sells alcohol, including bars, taverns, nightclubs, lounges and liquor stores.
Anyone with information about a breach of these conditions may contact police at 780-423-4567.
In 2013, city police issued a warning about Passechnikov after he was released from the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre following a 349-day sentence for robbery, unlawful confinement and possession of stolen property.
